ICDA is an enterprise of Our Community, providing accredited governance training and capacity building for board directors and community leaders. The mission of the Institute of Community Directors Australia is simple: to build community leadership confidence, boost knowledge and skills, and create connections, and to do so with an ethical base. Each year we work with hundreds of not-for-profits, social enterprises, school councils, sport clubs, committees and local councils to elevate governance.
We are proud to present the 2025 Community Director Awards, celebrating exceptional governance and leadership in the not-forprofit sector. The awards are designed to celebrate those people who lead the changes in work, learning, technology, demography and social roles that continue to reshape the sector, and the lives of all Australians. Nominations will be accepted across a range of categories including Community Director of the Year, Chair of the Year and Treasurer of the Year. The awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with our annual Joan Kirner Social Justice Oration, featuring a leading voice on a critical social issue.
This is the first awards program of its kind in Australia. The awards are a unique opportunity for sponsors to connect with board directors and senior leaders, offering visibility, networking, and alignment with transformative community work.

Our role at ICDA is to fill the gap in providing practical governance training and resources to Australian not-for-profits of all kinds and sizes, servicing a sector of over 600,000 organisations.

Community Director the Year
This award recognises a director who exemplifies excellence in governance, leading their organisation with integrity, vision, and a commitment to advancing its mission.
Chair of the Year
This award celebrates a chairperson who has effectively guided their board and organisation, ensuring robust governance and strategic success.
Emerging Leader Award
This award recognises a young leader who has made substantial contributions to their organisation, and demonstrated a dedication to the future of the sector.
Treasurer of the Year
This award acknowledges a treasurer who has provided exemplary financial leadership, ensuring the organisation’s fiscal health and integrity.
Innovation Award
This award celebrates creative and forward-thinking approaches that have led to significant improvements or advancements in the not-for-profit sector.
Secretary of the Year
Honours a secretary who has excelled in supporting board operations through meticulous record-keeping and adherence to governance standards.
Community Engagement Award
Honours efforts that have successfully connected and empowered communities, fostering collaboration and positive social impact.
