ABOUT CHESAPEAKE LGBTQ Chesapeake Diverse populations, upper-class communities and welleducated residents, make these the best towns in Maryland when it comes to being part of the LGBTQ community. Towns like Baltimore, Towson, Annapolis, Salisbury, Westminster and College Park are all LGBTQ friendly and forward thinking cities. In 2015, the Human Rights Campaign compiled a list of towns in America whose communities best support the LGBTQ lifestyle. Christened the MEI, or Municipal Equality Index, these towns have proven over and over again that they’re supportive of LGBTQ families regardless of the level of involvement by state and federal government. Coming in at the top of the list of best towns in Maryland with a perfect score of 100, is Charm City itself -- lovely Baltimore, Maryland. Every year Maryland’s capital city plays host to the Chesapeake Pride Festival that celebrates the LGBTQ community. Events at this annual celebration include food vendors, family-oriented activities and even a drag show. Annapolis is also home to several LGBTQ-owned bed and breakfasts which make perfect places to stay for LGBTQ couples looking to go clubbing in nearby Baltimore and D.C. Westminster is home to the Carroll County chapter of PFLAG, the national organization for families and allies of LGBTQ individuals. Historic Salisbury, Maryland is home to the annual Salisbury Pride Festival, a celebration of LGBTQ lifestyles that promotes tolerance and acceptance. 2
