THE GREENWICH VILLAGE MUSIC SCENE OF THE 60S
MAR 10-31
GREAT COMEDY IS SERIOUS STUFF: EIGHT TRULY FUN FILMS
In a live musical examination of the music scene of New York’s Greenwich Village in the 1960s, singing duo Bill Bowen and Joan Friedenberg, who perform professionally as the PinkSlip Duo, retrace the steps of folk and folkrock legends and the iconic locales — and bring you with them. According to Hollywood myth, a few moments before John Barrymore died, his brother Lionel asked him, “Jack: is dying difficult?” Brother John’s response? “Dying is easy, Lionel; it’s comedy that’s difficult.” Although the story is likely apocryphal, it nonetheless is true: making great comedy is terribly difficult. Perhaps that is why most comedic films don’t age all that well; what was laughable in 1935 or ‘45, ‘65, or even five years ago just isn’t all that funny today. Then there are those few comedic gems which stand the test of time. Come view eight films that are just as funny as the day they were released. This event is also available virtually. JANE PETERSON: IMPRESSIONS OF LIGHT AND WATER
This exhibition celebrates the Norton’s strong collection of work by American Impressionist Jane Peterson. Peterson was a leading figure in the early Palm Beach art community beginning in the 1910s and continued to depict the area’s tropical landscape for the next 30 years. Her masterful rendering of the brilliant South Florida sun contrasts with her evocation of sites in Europe, especially the silvery atmosphere of her favorite place, Venice. The Norton’s eight oils and watercolors demonstrate Peterson’s success as an Impressionist who could perfectly capture a particular place and time. See more online at events.palmbeachculture.com!

Come check out our social event last Friday of every month! Supporting our local favorite vendors, sip festive drinks, enjoy outdoor music and food.
Based on her book RESPECT: WOMEN AND POPULAR MUSIC, Dorothy Marcic has created a musical revue high-lighting the history of women in America, from 1900 to the present. The revue depicts a movement from codependency to independence…from “As Long As He Needs Me” to “I Will Survive.”
We have curated a unique boutique shopping experience for ladies and gentlemen. If your interested in being a vendor go to our website at: www.whiskeyandpearlspopup.site. You may also learn more details about this at eventbrite.com.
It’s a journey that takes women from the promise of “I Will Follow Him” to the defiance of “These Boots are Made for Walking” to the pride of “I Am Woman.” Combining excerpts from over 60 songs with women’s personal stories about realizing dreams, loves won and lost and battering against glass ceilings, RESPECT features such period favorites as ” “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” “I Wanna Be Loved By You,” “Respect” and “Whatever Lola Wants” along with such modern standards as “Where the Boys Are,” “It Must Be Him,” “The Greatest Love of All,”and “Stand by Your Man.” Check out the all female cast in this great show.
