ABOUT LGBTQ+ Massachusetts Bay The LGBTQ+ community comprises roughly 5 percent of the Massachusetts population overall, making the commonwealth the “second gayest” state in the country. You can’t visit New England without at least making a day trip to what must be one of the gayest places on the planet, Provincetown! It is a fabulous year-round destination. Known by locals and regular visitors as “P-town”, it’s located at the tip of Cape Cod. It’s a town dedicated to pleasure and leisure. Hosting big stars from Broadway and Drag Race alumni. Many of the shows there are geared towards gay audiences! The largest of 7 villages within the town of Barnstable, Hyannis serves as the gateway to Cape Cod and thanks to its historic Main Street, bustling harbor, and beautiful beaches, has earned the reputation as the “heart” of the Cape. As one of the busiest areas on the Cape, it should come as no surprise that Main Street is home to a multitude of fine-dining and nightlife establishments. The town and county of Plymouth boasts some of the best whale watching, dining, shopping, and cultural activities in a quaint New England setting, much of it nestled along the seashore. It is a history lover’s paradise, a family friendly atmosphere, and easy walking as you take in breathtaking sunrises. The Massachusetts Bay gay scene is exceptional and inclusivity has been a part of the culture for decades. There is always something gay-friendly and fun to do on Mass Bay!
