Diverse populations, upper-class communities and welleducated residents make these the best towns in Maryland when it comes to being part of the LGBTQ+ community. Towns like Baltimore, Towson, Annapolis, Salisbury, Westminster and College Park are all LGBTQ+ friendly and forward thinking cities. In 2022, the Human Rights Campaign list of towns in America whose communities best support the LGBTQ+ lifestyle, christened the MEI, or Municipal Equality Index, have once again placed Baltimore, Maryland at the top of the list with a perfect score of 100.
Every year Maryland’s capital city plays host to the Chesapeake Pride Festival that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community. Events at this annual celebration include food vendors, family-oriented activities and even a drag show. Annapolis is also home to several LGBTQ-owned bed and breakfasts which make perfect places to stay for LGBTQ+ couples looking to go clubbing in nearby Baltimore and D.C.
Westminster is home to the Carroll County chapter of PFLAG, the national organization for families and allies of LGBTQ+ individuals. Historic Salisbury, Maryland is home to the annual Salisbury Pride Festival, a celebration of LGBTQ+ lifestyles that promotes tolerance and acceptance.
