ABOUT

LGBTQ+ Detroit

During the 1970s and 1980s, its Palmer Park neighborhood was a well-known gay-friendly enclave. The city continues to be among the most gay-friendly major cities in the country. It’s home to Motor City Pride, which is held in Hart Plaza every June.

The birthplace of the automobile and the Motown sound has one of the most diverse gay communities in the US. You’ll find all types at the city’s various gay bars and clubs. There isn’t a gay neighborhood in Detroit, but bars are clustered on the cities north and west sides.

Top LGBTQ-friendly communities in Michigan are Detroit, Ann Arbor, East Lansing, and Ferndale, according to a new report from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

Ferndale is well-known as the most LGBTQ-friendly neighborhood in metro Detroit, with many LGBTQ+ organizations, businesses and residents.
