The last year saw some major changes for us as a family, and therefore as an operation. We have continued to grow our footprint for The Direction over the last year. We also lost my dad this past December, he was supposed to be here to help build fence this Summer/Fall, and instead we have the best foreman watching and guiding us from above. We are incredibly thankful for all those who have supported and helped us though the transition. Words will never be enough to repay all you have given us, but please know we are incredibly grateful to all of you.
As we look forward to the 15th of October, we can’t help but be excited for the set of cattle that are within the pages of the catalog before you. These cattle are a culmination of strides over the last few years that have led us to a place where we can offer females that we not only believe in but that are backed by cows that hold a strong standing in past sale highlights and backdrop pictures. We continue to develop cattle that we feel can find success in the show ring. We know that the investment you’re making, at any level, is one that you are not taking lightly! We want you to not only be proud of your purchase, but also have confidence in her ability to generate past her show career.
This sale offering is not just about the live cattle but also about the genetic offering. Towards the back of the catalog, you’ll find mates to the cattle we put in here on the farm this very Spring, as well as sib-matings to cattle that have found success and have gone on to generate for others across the country.
We are constantly pushing the trajectory of The Direction to help in aiding those who have been past supporters and to those protentional new customers looking to find cattle that are backed by accountability and success. Breeding seedstock is something Ben and I always wanted to do, and at times it honestly feels like a dream come true. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and discuss the offering to either of us prior to or on sale day.

Your experience with our cattle, it’s all part of The Direction!

Somethings are one hit wonders and lighting doesn’t strike twice in the same spot. And although both those things can be true, in the instance of 546 they are far from ever being in the conversation. Lot 1 earns her place in the sale order for the same reason her maternal sister - that the Weems family campaigned successfully last year - did. She’s built with a combination of power and structure that is only rivaled by the fact that her look from the side is striking and proportional. I think the word elite gets thrown around far too often and is not truly reserved for the ones that deserve it. I’m not going to label Lot 1 that way because I feel it groups her with other cattle she’s elevated herself past.

The skinny sister is that way because of me! We have one club calf cow that runs on our place, but every cow counts around here and I needed the space for an embryo! Lot 3 started behind and is finally catching up. Of the three sisters, this one is built most like her mother. Smooth as glass in her shoulder and muscle system, and impeccable in her structure and look through her front end. Patience is going to make someone look very smart!

This sister comes with a few more bells and whistles than most. She is so bold and round in her body shape and captivating in her presence that she rivals Lot 1 in quality. Bigger haired than most Bankrolls, with the same accountable power they seem to have! She upholds the standard and is ready for a fight!

Dueling Angus donors lead us to the first of three sisters from a First Class cow that just came on line last spring. Abbie and I found her in Iowa two years ago from Dennis Deppe and his crew. Lot 4 is a unique animal and one to tie into quickly. The projection of her neck, in concert with her body shape and elite hind leg build give her all the pieces to find success from day one. An extra shot of hair coming from the 410 side, and plenty of power propelling her forward - she’s destined to be successful from day one.

I knew when I saw Lot 5 this Spring there was something special about her. It has only become clearer the older she gets. I often think we overlook body length in cattle and make them shorter backed so they can be deeper flanked. It’s so hard to combine true body length and body shape. Bolt on out of this world presence and joint flexibility, and you have Lot 5. She has all the pieces to make a strong case, as a coming two-year-old, as quite possibly being one of the best to leave our place.

The power sister. Some are built for speed, others for endurance. This sister got an extra shot of bone and muscle, while still possessing a look of quality from the side. There are things in all of them I like, this one it’s the added density that does it for me.

The only female Pandemic I had this year is Lot 7. She concludes the percentage offering in the sale. Her mother, 184G, is a Broker/Double Good I bought a few years back from Donnie Begalka – the Howell Family successfully campaigned her in Florida. This female is exactly what I hoped for when I flushed that cow to Pandemic. Elevated in her shoulder and presence, awesome structured and square built. Her added gas and a little added age only lend to her look of long-term campaigning. I think as she develops she should have as good as shot as any at success and generating capability!

The first of two angus heifers in the offering this year and the younger of the pair! Lot 8 is a direct daughter on Marvel and is absolutely intriguing to look at. Sleek in her neck and neat at the base of her chest while opening up in her sternum with a bold rib cage. Lot 8 has a look of quality and it’s bred into her through multiple generations of quality selection pressure!

Casino females are not easy to come by, but when one surfaces, they are usually the cream. This one is backed by a notable and heavy hitter that resides in Mitchell, SD, and I’m certain she’s going to uphold the tradition. I am absolutely enamored with this female’s ability to stay in control of her skeleton while adding as much body, power, and density you can pack into an Angus. I have no doubt you might be able to find a cooler throated one, and if that trips your trigger and I get it. But when the cards are down and the big banners are up from grabs, do you really want to be asking yourself if you have the punch needed to win a big Angus show? I should also mention that if you’re a skull guy and think one’s poll and jaw line predict generating capability then you can rest easy considering Lot 9!

When I worked for SDSU, I coached a young lady that went to work for a Red Angus outfit in Oklahoma. She called one Spring and asked my thoughts on one of the bulls at Jesse Weber’s. I told her there was a Brando son over there that I thought was an outlier for the breed when it came to his power and dark red color. Fast forward a few years and here resides a direct daughter, out of a Damar Next cow that I mean is one unique Red Angus. Beautiful headed and built, punchy from behind, and I think she’ll make a very nice show heifer and a killer cow!

A little different speed for me, but the same kind of gears I like! Lot 11 is a soft built, long-necked purebred that is smooth in her image and bold in her pin set. Out of a cow that is a complete outcross from the looks of her pedigree, I think this Outkast daughter has everything needed to be succesful and is clearly built for the long-term.

Holdover Hammer! This IGWT is one cool headed, wasp necked, awesome built creature. He’s without a doubt holdover size. If that’s the long game you’re playing, Lot 12 is going to hold up his end of the deal.

When I sold 100’s first natural calf by Heritage - that the Larson family successfully campaigned - I already had Lots 13 and 14 baking. I took 100 to TransOva with the intent to reverse sort to her to Broker, and if you’ve ever tried that then you know why I ended up with Bankrolls - cause I needed a female guarantee. I am thankful RJ had the semen sitting there ,because Lot 13 and 14 are the result and I think very highly of both of them. Lot 13 will be unparalleled when it comes to power and density, while 14 is built smooth and sleek. I have tremendous confidence in both and its just a matter of how you like cattle that will make the choice for you!

JAS CRIB HERITAGE 102H
Heritage had a rookie year that is hard to really fathom. I solely used that bull two years ago and sold four females in this very sale last year that averaged a little over 11,000! 3 of the 4 have found success multiple times and the 4th was bought with the intent to go directly to the replacement pen. Needless to say, Lot 15 is the same standard of quality as those. For a purebred, she is so soft in her build and body that it’s hard to believe she’s a pure! I like this female a lot and she’s going to make someone very happy.

This is the first natural calf of a ¾ King of Diamonds female I bought from my good friend, Brian Foxx at Blind Badger Ranch. When Corey Thomsen saw her he said, “Boy I don’t know about her throat latch, she’s a little more you than me!” He forgot we don’t show them loose and as a ¾ she was positioned with a bone density and flexibility to make Lot 16! This Heritage daughter is built in the image of the cow that came before her and reminds me of Heritage’s mother. She wrote a story for us here and this one will do the same for someone else!

Here is one that I’m convinced will stand in front of a backdrop one day. This female came in a little skinny and has gotten better every day of her life. She’s backed by a donor dam that has had her fair share of success and sired by Style, but in this one’s case he didn’t rip the muscle, bone or width out of her and has positioned her as a High Chi to make a strong case ringside! Side note, she is impermeable to a single strand of turbo wire!

This one’s show career will fade in comparison to what she will accomplish once she’s done on the end of a halter. Regardless of what you want to try and generate, I’m quite certain she’s going to make you very happy. Momma’s big pieces and daddy’s presence, she combines a lot of things that are hard to tie together!
