Spotlight on Langley Insurance Agents.

Hi Dan, congratulations on your anniversary there isn’t many companies that make it to 50 years, tell us a little bit about how the company started.

Thank you very much! Langley Insurance began in 1973 when my grandfather Tom Robinson and a business partner started up from premises in Langley Moor. My grandfather had previously dealt in insurance with the Prudential when policies were sold door to door. Over time the business grew and we moved into various premises in Crook until we settled at our current office in 1988. Over the years the business has been passed down to my Dad, Lee, and Auntie, Dawn, who are both still involved today, with myself and my brother Jack now in charge of the day to day running of the business.

The insurance market has seen lots of changes over the last 50 years, most noticeably the rise of the internet. How do you manage to stay relevant in this age? We still have clients here who were with us when we first opened in 1973 who trust the service that we provide and we plan to be here for another 50 years with the same clients. We look to provide a family ran service to our customers as well as being the most competitive on premium. There is still a place for the high street broker in the current insurance world - not everyone wants to be online, people need someone they know and trust in business, to have their best interest at heart, not just a quick online policy where the covers ambiguous and you can’t get hold of anyone without waiting on hold for 3 hours.

This month we shine the spotlight onto Crook’s own Langley Insurance Agents who celebrate their 50th anniversary this month. Third generation director of the company Dan Robinson answers our questions.

Tell us a little bit about the day to running of the business.

These days we are 90% commercial insurance based, supporting businesses in the local area with policies ranging from Shop, Office, Fleet, Liability, Plant, Taxi, Truck, Property Owners and Motor Trade insurance. We have specialist markets for any business so if anyone is in doubt, give us a call.

Tell us a little bit about the team at Langley Insurance

Myself and Jack are the ones pushing the business forward now with Lee still involved and Tom calling in to check on his grandsons, but all of our staff have been with us for a number of years (Other than our 2 year old office Miniature Dachshund, Luna) - Local Girl, Claire Coveney, has been with us 18 years this month! So a special thank you to her as well as a celebration for all of us.

Where do you see Langley Insurance going as a whole going over the next 50 years?

We grow with our clients, we want to support their growth as businesses, protecting their assets and investments along the way. As I said earlier, we’re still dealing with clients who started with us in 1973 however things have changed slightly since then.

It used to be pen and paper with rating guides! Now we’ve just purchased a new system that will allow us to cover the whole insurer market instantly, this will allow us to offer competitive premiums that you might find online, but you get your own insurance expert to explain the covers, ensure you have everything you need and handle any claims on your behalf!

People are busy, no one has time to be waiting on hold for 3 hours to an online company. We’re hear to do all the leg work for our clients so they can focus on running their businesses.
