Welcome to the 2021 Junior League of Wilmington Kitchen Tour Reimagined! Planning for the 2020 Kitchen Tour was fully underway when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the world to shut down around us in early April. The Junior League of Wilmington had to make the difficult decision to postpone our fundraiser until 2021. The world has changed much more than we could have imagined since then, and our fundraising efforts have had to change as well. This is the 13th Tour that the Junior League has hosted since it began in 2004. Formerly an annual event, the Tour is now held on alternating years, and, as a major fundraiser for the League, the Tour remains critically important to supporting the League’s mission. While our Reimagined version of the Kitchen Tour will be nothing like the in-person events of the past, we hope this year's Tour still brings people together around the kitchen as the heart of the home, despite its virtual nature. Each virtual Kitchen Tour ticket is good per household and we encourage tour-goers to attend the Cooking Classes "together" from their own homes. The League has been established in Wilmington for over 100 years, and with that, we have seen a lot of change. We have always taken on the toughest problems of the day and worked collaboratively to come up with solutions. I can't be more proud to be a part of the League over the past year. No matter what the outcome is for our fundraiser, we know we are putting forth our best efforts to provide a unique, exciting experience in a safe and responsible way. We would like to thank our incredible generous sponsors, the amazing designers who are sharing their work, the homeowners who have opened their homes for photoshoots and virtual classes, the chefs and talent who volunteered to lead Cooking Classes, and to all the others who made the Tour possible. All of these people, and all of you, our Tour attendees, allow the League to keep up the amazing work we have been doing in our community for over 100 years. 1 Wednesday April 7, 6:30 p.m. Chef Robbie Jester Recipe: Maryland Style Shrimp Scampi with ToyBox Tomatoes and Basil Cooking is in Chef Robbie Jester’s blood – he began his career in his family’s restaurant at the age of 12. After finishing high school, he continued on to the Culinary Institute of America where he graduated with high honors. Upon returning to Delaware Chef Robbie made his way through several prominent local kitchens and arrived at Toscana Kitchen and Bar. During his tenure with Toscana he oversaw catering and restaurant operation, cooked for the King and Queen of Sweden, and catered then Vice President Biden’s daughter’s wedding. When High 5 Hospitality purchased the space in August of 2014, Chef Jester moved on to become a part of High 5 Hospitality and open Stone Balloon Ale House by preparing favorites from his childhood and “comfort food playfully re-imagined.” Then in 2018 he opened Limestone BBQ and Bourbon and in 2019 Eggspectation. Jester’s talents have not gone unnoticed. Chef Jester has been featured in Delaware Today Magazine, Brandywine Signature Magazine, Out and About, and the News Journal as well as being voted Best Chef Upstate Delaware 2017, 2018, and 2019. Robbie was voted one of the 40 top leaders under 40 by the Delaware Business Times and Rising Sar by the Delaware Restaurant Association. Chef Robbie was featured on Food Network show Guy’s Grocery Games in November 2015 and was invited back for Redemption in 2016. Chef Robbie also Beat Bobby Flay. Currently Chef Robbie is chef and partner of Full Circle Food, a healthy meal delivery concept that serves up weekly meal plans to Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Robbie is also chef and partner of Great Big Jerk, a ghost kitchen concept featuring authentic roadside Jerk chicken.

ABOUT JLW

The Junior League of Wilmington (JLW) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The JLW welcomes all women who value our Mission. We are committed to inclusive environments of diverse individuals, organizations and communities. The JLW empowers women to be high-impact volunteers and to serve in leadership roles in the nonprofit community. We provide our members with an array of formal training and experiential learning opportunities in our efforts to prepare them to serve the community beyond our organization. Some examples of the training through experiences are the opportunity to lead committees, run major fundraisers, present life skills workshops in the community, cultivate fund development activities, and manage, recruit, retain, and train new members. The JLW's current initiative Stand Up. Period. addresses period equity. Period equity refers to removing the barriers that prevent people, particularly those living in poverty, from being able to manage their menstrual cycles and participate fully in their lives. Those who lack adequate period supplies experience school and work absences, opportunity losses, and emotional distress. The JLW is committed to raising awareness of period equity in Wilmington and working towards ensuring individuals have equitable and affordable access to period supplies. In May 2020, the JLW joined Alliance for Period Supplies (APS) in an effort to increase its support network and inventory of desperately needed period supplies. APS is a national organization which collects, warehouses, and distributes period supplies to 75+ allied programs in over 30 states, including the JLW in Delaware. In October 2020, the JLW received its first donation from APS of an astounding 69,000 pads and 56,000 liners! This donation, as well as donations from the community has allowed the JLW to distribute 30,000 supplies. Our focus area shifts as pressing priorities are identified, but our commitment to building a better community and training our members to lead and serve never wavers. For over 100 years, Members of the JLW have dedicated their time, energy and resources to impact our community.
