Old Hickory Sheds Central Oregon In our article last year, we discussed the difference between Outbuilders and Old Hickory Sheds. They were not too happy and asked us to redact and/or update our information about them. In all fairness, we were not trying to cause any rifts or stir up issues for any of our competitors. We most definitely added their information and updated our website so they know and understand that we appreciate their business model. Competition is healthy. In fact, it’s what makes capitalism great. We did notice, however, that most of the shed companies in Bend, Redmond, La Pine, Madras, Sisters, Prineville and Terrebonne are all syndicating a non-local company. In fact, almost all of the shed companies are resellers of Old Hickory Building & Sheds which are located in Murfreesboro, TN. Why does this matter? Well, for starters, the materials for Old Hickory Sheds are produced at 23 different locations out of state. This is not local Oregon lumber. They make the kits and ship them to their retailers where they build the sheds onsite. That means that most of the monies for the material are not going to Oregonians or paying Oregon taxes. Well, so what? Most material America buys are from China and other countries so what is the big deal? Central Oregon is a small population compared to Portland or Salem. As of the year 2000 formal mandated census, Central Oregon’s population was around 150,000. Since then, according to KTVZ.com, the population has grown to 176,000. Judging by the fast growth we have seen as of lately, we think that number is higher. Purchasing local means more money stays within your community. Every dollar spent generates twice as much income for the local economy. Money is like blood. It needs to move around to keep the economy going. Like a wound, it (blood/money) will flow out and cause harm to the eco system. The monies need to stay local in order for Bend to stay concurrent. Bend Oregon is known for keeping it local. Outbuilders was founded right here in Bend Oregon and has been locally owned since 1992. All proceeds go to local salaries, lumber and hardware companies all here in Central Oregon. When you are interested in buying a shed, chicken coup, garage or tiny home, think of the economy and use a local company that is feeding local families.
