Paul & Matty in the Morning
Photography & Interview: Matt Burgett
“Our mission is to inspire people to be their best selves.”
June 10th, 2011
The “Nothing off limits,” and “No holding back” attitude provide Paul and Matty in the Morning, a Boston produced internet LGBTQI talk show the edge to make a truly entertaining hour of talk radio. “Our mission is to inspire people to be their best selves.” The show, airing 910am EST MondayFriday hosts guest stars such as Barbara Eden to talk about her new book Jeannie Out of the Bottle. The store of this radio show starts like any other great story, with Lady Gaga. When she visited Portland to speak on DADT, Paul wrote a letter to a few senators, the President, and few magazine editors. With Matty’s encouragement and the connection Paul had made with the magazine editor, they were able to get their internet radio show the green light. While Paul and Matty are both inspired by their families and the LGBT community, Paul would like to interview Oprah, and Matty, Lindsay Lohan. . . . The goal is to keep the show going for years to come, and maybe transition to TV.

Death Cab for Cutie – “Codes and Keys”
todd’s tunes.
Since my glory days of being a radio DJ at age 13, I have always had an ear for the radioready tunes out there in this jukebox of a world, and I can easily say this is Death Cabs most radio friendly albums in their 15year history…and they couldn’t be happier. Death Cab hasn’t sounded this happy since Ben Gibbard’s (leadsinger) coast to coast sideproject with his brother, known as Postal Service (the concept was simple: Ben supplied the vocals, his brother supplied the beats, and this was all done through the use of the United States Postal Service…get it?).
Maybe it’s because of Ben’s relationship with Zooey Deschanel this time around that we hear happy lyrics coming out of “Stay Young, Go Dancing” (Life is sweet/With her song in your heart/It can never let you down), “Underneath the Sycamore” (And now we are under the same sun/Feel it through the leaves/Let it heal us/We are the same/ We are both safe), or the title track (Throwing stones at the sky/When they fall back to earth/As minor chords of major works/Separate rooms of single life/We are one/We are alive). Every tune makes you want to hold hands with someone, even if it’s the creepy guy/gal on the bus or train. “Codes…” is an up and down roller coaster of emotions, but I’m not talking about a Giant Drop kind of down motion. The upbeatness of the album will make you feel more like you’re on a kiddycoaster in Kidzopolis at Great America. However, the album comes out at a good time; the feel of the record is one that’d you want to hear in the summer. Either it is a road trip or a bike ride on the beach (for pleasure, not sport). “Cods and Keys” allows Death Cab for Cutie to finally be cute.
3.5 of 5 “Willis Towers”
There are hints of Postal in Death Cab’s 7th release, “Home is A Fire” can be mashedup well with “Such Great Heights” (both have a median of about 85 BPM, for you club DJ’s out there). However, “Home…” is not the best track to start the album out with if you want to get a feel for this feelgood record. The first released single, “You Are a Tourist” is a good segue for those who loved their previous few albums, as well as their darker toned track from The Twilight Saga soundtrack (“Meet Me on the Equinox”).
Glee: Live 2011 Tour For pure pleasure, and a heartfelt gift for Valentine’s Day (or was it for my birthday?), I went to see Glee: Live 2011 Tour. And that was it…I had no plans to write anything, or make any other comments than what I posted on my Facebook, however, people just didn’t get why I’d go to that kind of show! So, having some added freedom to use myspace (this page, NOT the social site), I’ve decided to write a bit about my experience at that “kind of show”. First off, I really had no clue as to what I was getting myself into. The show was performing at the Allstate Arena, which, for those who don’t know, is way out in Burbville, USA (Rosemont, IL), which means the median age was around 18 and then 40 (nothing inbetween)…and female. Paying $20 just to park is nothing to these people; neither is paying $35 to $100 on show merchandise. So, I did start the event off a bit turned off. continued on next page.
glee: live 2011 tour However, after an impressive opening act from the dance group, LXD, I could see some good times were coming my way. Now, if you have at least seen the show you know that the Glee cast have a few song and dance numbers on their “school’s auditorium stage”; that is what this show was, except with an audience of over 18,000 screaming teens and moms. I wasn’t a screamer, nor was I a singer, I simply was a watcher of a show of 20-something actors actually singing (about 85% was “live” singing) and dancing. There were some skits of sort in-between the songs, but no specific plot. “I Want to Hold Your Hand” was covered in the middle of the show, somewhat of an intermission, 30-minutes in (if you do the math, the total running time was an hour). This was followed by a cute banter between Kurt (Chris Colfer), his boy-toy Blaine (Darren Criss), and Brittany (Heather Morris), who tries to ask Blaine out, and Kurt interjects as he guides her off stage with a “Chic-ca-go” adlib. That was probably the only adlibbed moment of the much scripted show. There weren’t any shout-outs from the cast to “raise the roof”, “clap for your favorites”, or “clap if you want tinker bell to live”. Instead, the cast was spread out throughout the show, giving lime light to all evenly. Major songs that were included in this show were their first-ever hit cover of “Don't Stop Believing”, followed by tunes that were covered throughout their second season, such as “Toxic”, “Fireworks”, “Fat Bottomed Girls”, “Don't Go Breaking My Heart”, “Teenage Dream (sung by the Warblers), and closing out their encore with “Somebody to Love”. So, for those who thought Glee: Live should have been called Glee: On Ice, I say to you, don’t stop believing that Glee actually has a good thing going for them. It may reach its peak sooner than any of us would like to see, therefore, in the mean time, watch an episode, buy at least one of their soundtracks, an d go to one of their shows. You never know when Glee: Live will be Glee: Gone.

High Energy Friday Night
ultralounge & cafe
What: Minibar’s newest Fiday Night Where: Minibar Ultralounge & CafEé 3339 N Halsted St Chicago, Illinois 60657 (773) 8716227 Closest “L” Stop: Redline (Belmont) When: Friday nights till 2am Cover? None

Another normal night in Boystown? If it’s Friday you can stop over to Minibar for their new High Energy Friday night! No cover, and a free can of Redbull with every drink. It is hard not to go wrong. DJ Rockstar, flown in from California, is always available, and is playing tons of great remixes. With the downstairs dance floor closed, it may a little hard to find a place to get your groove on, but the music is trying to get you to that place. Minibar High Energy Friday Night is a great addition the Boystown event lineup on a Friday. You may not be able to stay here all night due to the lack of dancing, but it is a great place to stop in for some highenergy cocktails, and mingling with the beautiful crowd.
