Welcome to Pride Western Australia Incorporated welcomes you to the 26th celebrations of PrideFEST, WA’s premier LGBTIQ arts, culture and community festival. Pride WA grew out of a community movement protesting laws that actively discriminated against lesbian and gay Western Australians, and has worked closely with many in our community to achieve important law reforms. As an organisation, we are now focused on growing PrideFEST as a festival that gives artists, performers and community groups a platform to share our abilities and stories with the whole of Western Australia. This year represents every colour of the rainbow, to match the incredible diversity of our community. The festival is the most amazing two week long celebration, an opportunity for everyone to get involved and have their voices heard. From visual arts, theatre, film, the Parade, outdoor family activities; whether you’re eight or eighty-nine, there is something for you.
This year’s theme is #LoveWins – it demonstrates that no matter what atrocities happen around us- be they local, national or international, that #LoveWins is a common theme that brings members of LGBTIQ and wider communities together. We would like to acknowledge the amazing support we have had from both the City of Perth and City of Vincent over the many years, as well as our growing relationship with the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority. With the support of Lotterywest and all of our other sponsors, we are proud to present this year’s program to you. We hope you enjoy it and wish you a very happy PrideFEST! Messages OF SUPPORT It’s a pleasure to send my very best wishes to Western Australia’s LGBTIQ community for PrideFEST 2016.
The Rt Hon Lisa-M. Scaffidi Lord Mayor, City of Perth

Mayor, City of Vincent
The City of Perth is very proud to sponsor the PrideFEST– because we truly believe in an inclusive and diverse community, where everyone enjoys the same rights and respect. Annually PrideFEST graces Northbridge for ten days with an inspiring celebration to ensure that #lovewins . 2016 is jampacked with events that celebrate the diversity of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgenders, intersex and questioning community, covering a range of themes that will appeal to all ages and audiences.
Eagerly anticipated and now a well and truly integral part of our City and Northbridge events calendar, PrideFEST has been enriching our streets and venues for over 25 years.
It might be a cliché but it’s very true: it’s not what you say that matters, it’s what you do. The City of Vincent is a strong and unequivocal supporter of the LGTBIQ community – and it’s demonstrated in what we do as a Council.
The City of Perth has been a long time supporter of Pride WA and is always excited to see this festival continue to grow and flourish. On behalf of City of Perth, I congratulate Pride WA on a positive and strong program while encouraging everyone to support and enjoy these events.
I am proud of my longstanding support for PrideFEST. Over the years, I have formed some wonderful friendships which I value highly.
Happy Pride!
Diversity is one of our City’s greatest assets! It’s what defines us as a City, State and Nation in so many ways and PrideFEST is a unified celebration of our fabulous diversity. It’s an event that brings together families, communities and business. It is a time to come to understand the deeper message of acceptance, support and celebration behind PrideFEST and its origins.
The State Government is very pleased to support PrideFEST through Lotterywest. On behalf of the State Government and the Liberal Party of Western Australia, I wish you all the best for a great festival and look forward to seeing many of you at the events!
Vincent is still the only Council in Western Australia to officially endorse and support marriage equality. The City was also the first in the state to establish a Relationship Declaration Register as both a symbolic and practical way to provide some recognition to same sex couples until marriage equality is realised. We are incredibly proud to support this year’s Pride Festival – which reminds all of us how much our community has achieved and why it’s worth fighting for. It’s also a great opportunity to celebrate and have a lot of fun! We love that the Pride Parade starts in Vincent – it’s brilliant to see the excitement build before the parade begins. Finally, a huge congratulations to the Pride executive, volunteers and supporters for making this great event happen. We know a lot of blood, sweat and tears go into putting on this kind of festival – and we genuinely thank you for it! Have a great Pride!
Over the years, PrideFEST has gone from strength to strength. It is a key event in WA’s Mark McGowan MLA cultural calendar and organisers should be WA Labor Leader applauded for the positive impact it continues to have on our community and its role in creating a more equal and fair society. Labor has a long and proud history supporting equality for LGBTIQ people. The WA community has come a long way since the 1989 protest event which led to the ever more successful yearly Pride Festival. In August this year, I announced changes to laws that discriminate against sections of WA’s LGBTI community. A McGowan Labor Government will quash criminal convictions for LGBTI Western Australians, for offences committed under old laws that discriminated against LGBTI people. LGBTI Western Australians should not have to carry the stigma of a criminal record for consensual acts that are no longer considered a crime. We hope our new laws will bring some comfort to LGBTI Western Australians who have been impacted by unjust, prejudiced laws. There is more to do to stop bullying and discrimination and to promote acceptance and love. We can look back and celebrate the gains made in equality, but we must also renew our efforts to make sure progress continues. Marriage equality shouldn’t be delayed anymore. Everyone deserves the right to marry the one they love. I reaffirm WA Labor’s calls to the Federal Parliament to amend the Marriage Act and establish marriage equality now. My congratulations and best wishes go to the hard-working organisers of PrideFEST 2016 and to all who join in this year’s celebrations.

The first European explorers and colonists viewed WA as an “unknown land”. Of course, it was no such thing – Aboriginal people had owned the land for thousands of years and were quickly in conflict with the imperialists.Whatever their motives – colonist, invader, explorer, settler, artist, adventurer – the Europeans were awestruck by the land we now call WA. This exhibition of the earliest watercolours, paintings and drawings of WA superbly captures images of iconic locations still familiar, but now mostly transformed.

Cougar Morrison is a vision of old world Parisian cabaret, by way of Bowie – a deliciously fierce pixie, dripping in velvet and jewels. With an astounding vocal quality that sounds like Edith Piaf and Joanie Mitchell got together and created a beautiful voice-baby, Cougar reveals his hilarious, sometimes heartbroken stories dealing with sexuality and modern life through a classic lens. With a wry wit and one heck of a vocal wobble, Cougar lays himself bare and celebrates the profound beauty of imperfection. Proud, poignant and perfect, Cougar Morrison’s “Bonsoir Bitches!” is not to be missed.

CONGRATULATIONS TO PRIDE WA! WE’RE PROUD TO BE A MAJOR SPONSOR OF PRIDEFEST AGAIN. Vincent established the Relationship Declaration Register in 2012 – WA’s only local council to offer relationship recognition for same sex couples. We sponsor Pride WA each year with funding and other in-kind support.
