indirectly to approximately 45,000 people, and has enabled Fiji to welcome 754,835 visitors to its home. During your visit you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to down time, whether you are looking to relax on the world-famous Fijian shores or fully embrace the wide range of activities available to you. While you could happily spend a large proportion of your free time beside or under the water, there is a wealth of opportunities available to the more adventurous among you. Alongside its business exploits, Fiji offers opportunities for hikers, birdwatchers and those looking for more of an urban experience will find plenty of options in Suva, the country’s capital. You will find yourself welcomed with open-arms upon your arrival within Fiji, with thanks to the famously warm hospitality of the locals; making it very easy to fully immerse yourself in Fijian culture.

Transport Links W H E N Y O U R E A C H Fiji, you will find a variety of public transport options available to you, including buses, shared taxis and private taxis, all of which have reasonable rates depending on how far you require to travel. It will quickly become apparent that taxis make up a large proportion of the traffic both in and around the country’s capital city, while buses also contribute every half hour. If you are located on western Taveuni, take note that buses only run a handful of times each day

and a taxi will be your most likely form of reliable transportation. If you do happen to use a taxi and notice that it has a meter, be sure to ask your driver to switch it on as the ride will be far cheaper than a negotiated price. Depending where you are staying during your time in Fiji, there are also an array of inter-island ferries run by South Sea Cruises around Mamanuca Island resorts. If you require a transfer out to the remote Yasawa Islands, Awesome Adventures Fiji will provide you with daily transfer opportunities.

All of the inter-island ferry services are reasonably priced and incredibly safe, just bear in mind that if you are travelling during the school holidays the ferries are more likely to be crowded. You will also notice during your time in Fiji that travelling around on a bicycle is increasingly popular for both tourists and locals alike. If you do decide to make your way around by bike, make sure you are well equipped with spares as bike shops are few and far between in Fiji

The Yasawa Flyer connects Port Denarau near Nadi with the Yasawa Islands.

Landmark Attractions Suva Municipal Market

“It’s the beating heart of Suva and a great place to spend an hour or so poking around with a camera. The boys with barrows own the lanes and they aren’t afraid to mow down a few tourists to deliver their cassava on time. Besides the recognisable tomatoes, cabbages and chillies, look out for bitter gourds, jackfruit, dalo (taro), cassava and yams. Produce is cheaper than in supermarkets and there's no need to haggle – prices are clearly marked.” - Lonely Planet

Tavuni Hill Fort

“There is one place in Fiji that definitely tells the tales of the turbulent times our ancestors had to live through. Located in the interior of Nadroga, the Tavuni Hill Fort is clear evidence of the fierce tribal wars that were fought in the name of Fijian beliefs and against Christianity Settled in the 1800s, tribes found refuge in the highly fortified settlement from the bloody wars that thrived throughout the country.” - Pireport.org

Albert Park

PHOTO: MATTHIAS SÜSSEN

“Albert Park is one of Suva’s historical sites. Most of the important historical events of Fiji have been held at this site since its inception. The park was the site of a landing by the Australian aviator Sir Charles Kingsford Smith during the first trans-Pacific flight from the United States to Australia in 1928.” - Suvacity.org
