The Love Letter 1750

by François Boucher, 1703 - 1770

Arts, in all of its forms is an expression of love. A complex emotion, expressed in many ways but always telling a story percieved through the kaleidoscope of life and conditions. Buddhists have a simple way to define love which is in contrast to what our wester n culture wants to teach us: to unselfishly wish others to be happy, without wanting anything in return.

François Boucher was a French painter, draughtsman and etcher, who worked in the Rococo style. Boucher is known for his idyllic and voluptuous paintings on classical themes, decorative allegories, and pastoral scenes. He was perhaps the most celebrated painter and decorative artist of the 18th century. Paintings courtesy of www.nga.gov
