Presidential Awards Secretariat Commission on Filipinos Overseas Citigold Centre 1345 President Quirino Avenue Corner President Osmeña Highway, 1007, Manila Philippines Dear Presidential Awards Secretariat: I wish to inform you that I fully support the nomination of Vanda Marie Macion Brady for the 2020 Philippine Presidential Awards under the Banaag Award Category. I have known Vanda since 2017 when we first sent her tourism materials for the launch of Vicenta Kennedy’s book “From the Philippines to Ireland: A Voyage of Discovery.” We have continued to support Vanda’s events such as the “Taste of Cavan” where thousands of guests were able to know more about the Philippines, and “Mind the Brexit Gap” which also gained media coverage and was attended by UN and politicians in Ireland attended. I have found Vanda to be very active in her community work and in the multicultural and advocacy groups she is involved with in Ireland where she has served long hours a volunteer. I am particularly grateful for the work she has done in putting a good name for the Philippines. I wish you will consider her impressive contributions in the Presidential Awards selection process. Thank you. Yours Sincerely, Gerard Panga Tourism Attache Department of Tourism London
Presidential Awards Secretariat Commission on Filipinos Overseas Citigold Centre 1345 President Quirino Avenue Corner President Osmeña Highway, 1007, Manila Philippines

Dear Presidential Awards Secretariat: My name is Sinead Dooley. I am the Deputy CEO of Irish Rural Link, a Partner and Coordinator of The Next Chapter Project. With enthusiasm, I am pleased to fully support the nomination of Vanda Marie Macion Brady for the 2020 Philippine Presidential Awards under the Banaag Award Category. I have known Vanda since November 2018 since joining The Next Chapter project in County Cavan. Funded through the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme and managed by the Special EU Programmes Body, The Next Chapter is delivered by Politics Plus, the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action and Irish Rural Link. It aims to contribute towards bringing about lasting peace building and societal change through the empowerment and greater involvement of women in community, public and political life. The Next Chapter project has facilitated ten Chapters of over 300 women in total from around Northern Ireland and the border counties to meet, network and collaborate on various projects. Through a strict entry criteria, Vanda, the only Filipino national in the group, was among those chosen to attend a capacity building training programme, receive individual coaching support and meet up at various events including visits to Government Buildings, Dáil Éireann in the Republic of Ireland and Stormont in Northern Ireland. I am very much impressed by three major events that Vanda was part of: Vanda organised a ground-breaking event to mark the 121stPhilippine Independence Day through her community organisation Filipino Association of Cavan which was awarded a Festivals Grant by Cavan County Council. Women from The Next Chapter took an active part in the first cross-border Brexit Conference called “Mind the Brexit Gap: Celebrating Diversity & Inclusion in the Border” Saturday 1 June 2019. Guests and speakers which included local and National politicians, Government Officials, Former Elected Member and Chairperson of the UN Treaty Body on Racism Anastasia Crickley, UN Expert on Women’s Engagement in Peace Processes, Bronagh Hinds, and Next Chapter members participated in the robust and productive discussions on Brexit and its effects on marginalised groups. In April 2019, the ten chapters were tasked with the development and implementation of a Community Project where members took collective action at grassroots level to generate solutions to common problems to improve wellbeing in the community. Vanda was the Chairperson of the Moate Business Park, Clara Road, Moate, Co. Westmeath. N37 W9R0 +353 9064 82744
Cavan Chapter Project which was a You Tube Channel called “Cavan Speaks.” She was one of 11 individuals who were featured in a series of videos for the good work in promoting diversity and inclusion and Cavan. In her video, she and her two children spoke about their involvement in promoting integration and acceptance of diversity. In Vanda’s closing speech, she emphasised that sharing and listening to each other’s stories is the first step to accepting differences and this really impacted on other chapter members and the community. “Cavan Speaks” was a great success and will now be promoted by Cavan Cross Cultural Community (4C) which has over 70 member countries. At the recent Closing Event of the Next Chapter called “Celebrate” Vanda, following a competitive shortlisting process, was chosen as one of 10 speakers who spoke about her experience as a project participant and described how she had “rediscovered” herself again through the Next Chapter with a group of likeminded women from diverse backgrounds, who had all worked together to make a real difference in their community. The First Minister, Deputy First Minster, and Minister of Parliament of Northern Ireland were among the VIP guests at the event. In conclusion, I have found Vanda to be very well liked and respected in The Next Chapter community and in the advocacy groups she is involved with in Ireland where she has served long hours as a volunteer. She has empowered women and been a terrific Ambassador for the Philippines and the rest of the migrant and marginalised community. I commend and respect her for her selfless work, her commitment and dedication to working for the betterment of everybody. With that, I believe Vanda fully deserves a Banaag Award of the 2020 Philippine Presidential Awards and we wish her well in her endeavours. I hope during your review you will take on board the good work she has done in the Irish Border Region through The Next Chapter, it has been our honour to have somebody of Vanda’s calibre as part of our project.
Thanking you. Yours sincerely.
