Our mobile devices have become such an integral part of our lives that certainly, when vacationing, our digital lockboxes come along for the ride. But have you ever considered the practical value added of two mobile devices? Let’s discuss.

1. CAN THEY DO THAT?

Under the banner of security, certain countries will request your phone, plug it in via USB and peruse all your personal information. Keep your main phone powered off and tucked away in your carry-on. Give them your “travel phone” to search, if requested. Maintain your privacy as best you can.

2. TRAVEL SECURITY SYSTEM

Having a second phone allows you to monitor your room after leaving. New security apps can use your phone’s camera and sensors for motion/sound/vibration detection. Set up one of the phones with the app and you’ll be notified via text or email if it senses any uninvited guests in your absence.

3. ENTERTAINMENT DEVICE

To be a proper DJ, you can’t have notifications ‘pinging-pinging’ during your favorite jam. Use your travel phone as your ‘DJ phone’ and don’t ruin the vibes.

If your only phone gets lost, solen or damaged how confident are you with navigating the balance of your trip? Use the ‘travel phone’ when going zip-lining or venturing off into parts unknown. This way you’ll have a backup if Murphy’s Law kicks in.

Technologies are more accessible in regions once considered rural and untouched. Since your travel phone should be one of lesser value (a marketplace purchase), consider gifting the device to your favorite concierge, tour guide or young family member when your vacation is over.
