Our production operation and our Danish headquarters also feature test facilities that include a wind machine that creates wind speeds of up to 150kph, and a rain area that simulates six month’s rainfall in just 20 minutes – one of the most severe tent tests on the market today. We regularly carry out random tests on our tents, new and old, to make sure that we provide you with the very best to beat the bad weather. Outwell is about you, the camper. unprecedented levels of stability in high winds and tests show that our AvantGarde and Premium Collections can withstand Force Ten storms, while DeLuxe and Fantasy tents have been tested to the equivalent of a Force Nine gale. It is certainly a first in the field...
But remember, it is wise to shelter from the midday sun. That is why we have now added tinted windows to our Ambiente, AvantGarde and Premium Collections. This superb development in tent comfort not only improves privacy while still allowing the best possible views out, but the special coating also reduces the sun’s glare and heat to help keep your tent a welcome cool haven.
At the same time, we brought in our OEP System (Outwell Easy Pegging System) that ensures specific pegs are quickly located and used in their correct place. Simple but highly effective.
Stormy weather is also a worry. As campers, we understand a camper’s concerns and have addressed the problems through careful design. For instance, besides using top quality materials to shed the weather, previous years have seen us introduce our Outwell Power Stability System of sturdy interconnected steel poles, and our Rain-safe door that creates a sheltered entrance to use in the rain – a first-in-the-field feature now often copied. BEAUFORT SCALE We use the internationally recognised Beaufort Scale to illustrate the performance of our tents in the stormiest of conditions – this is the empirical measure that relates wind speed to observed conditions at sea or on land. In recent tests tents from the AvantGarde and Premium Collection withstood wind speeds of up to Force 10 on the Beaufort Scale – this is a gale storm rating considered sufficient to uproot a tree! OUTWELL FAMILY Camping is a great family activity. And who should know better than the Sutcliffe family. As editor of UK-based outdoor magazine Lakeland Walker, dad, Mark, regularly takes the family camping. He appreciates the quality time it allows with wife Sally and their two children Ellie (9) and Freddie (6). Put a large pan of salted water on to boil. When it’s boiling drop in the tomatoes for less than a minute, scoop out, then peel off the skins and roughly chop. Add your pasta to the boiling water. Lay out the bacon in a large frying pan, with just a splash of olive oil. Cook on a low heat until crispy

and the fat is the colour of amber. Remove the rashers from the heat and allow them to cool down. Into the frying pan add the tomatoes, the garlic, the herbs and the paprika. Stir it through to make a rich vermilion sauce. When the bacon is cool enough to handle, snap it up into small pieces, and when the pasta is nearly ready, put it back into the sauce and stir it until heated through. Drain the pasta and plate up, cover with the sauce and a generous garnish of the smoked cheddar. Don’t eat it wearing a white shirt!

The benefits of using an awning or extension are now so well recognised that campers who did not purchase one when buying their tent can now often be found frantically seeking out an appropriate model as they realise that the extra space and shelter provided are too good to miss.
