By High School Principal Greg Feddema

Dear Community of Le Center,

Principal Greg Feddema

I would like to take this time to thank the students and staff for another productive and good school year. As the year comes to a close I would like to especially thank those in our arts and academics co-curricular programs. Our band program continues to receive high marks both in concert band and jazz band. I had the opportunity to see ďŹ rst-hand all our art students had to offer at the sec-

tion 2AA art festival in GlencoeSilver Lake. Our students talents reach far and wide and all are to be commended on their efforts. The opportunities for students are available in a wide range of areas outside of the athletic arena. We offer an excellent drama program along with opportunities in academic cocurricular activities such as FFA, Knowledge Bowl, Math League, Math Counts, CO-OP Program-

ming, National Honor Society, PSEO, College in the Schools, Student Council and Business Professionals of America. Study after study show that students that are more involved in these types of activities make them a more rounded student and young adult. We here at Le Center and TCU next year recognize the importance of these programs. With the help and support of parents

and students we will continue to offer and grow in these organizations. The commitment from our students, parents and staff are to be commended as we continually look to challenge our student body in all areas of school life. Congratulations to all who have gone above and beyond to make these Arts and Academic programs a success.

Congratulations to all Arts & Academic Students at Le Center High School

The Yellow Ribbon Program is a student driven organization that educates the school community about suicide awareness and prevention. This year the Yellow Ribbon members worked on fundraising to buy yellow ribbon cards. The cards are given to students to provide information on the signs of depression and suicide. In addition, the cards encourage those thinking about suicide to reach out for help and has a number to contacts for support. The students sold cookies over Christmas, designed suicide prevention bracelets and held a school dance to raise money.

Math League By Barry Busacker Advisor The Minnesota State High School Mathematics League was founded in 198081 and was modeled after leagues that have flourished along the U.S. eastern seaboard since mid 1940s. The first year four schools participated, followed by sixteen schools in the second year. The League exists to identify students who have unusual mathematical ability, to give them recognition and encouragement, to bring them together with similarly gifted students for mutual stimulation, and to prod them into the study of topics not commonly taught in the high school curriculum. Students compete in Algebra ( simple and advanced ),Geometry, Trigonometry, and Probability. League activities are focused on students with unusual mathematical ability, but they

Knowledge Bowl is essentially a fast paced game in which schools compete against each other to answer challenging questions. Five member teams compete in a written round followed by four oral rounds in which three teams vie to be the first to answer the question that they’ve just heard.
