Public Relations and Community Outreach: List any public relations and/or community outreach activities you have participated in to highlight Jackson State University? Atlanta HBCU Alliance • MAC joined the Alliance under Yolanda’s presidency in 2006 and JSU has been a leader of the alliance since that time. Major events hosted by the Alliance include Annual HBCU Mixer and HBCU 5k Walk/Run • Yolanda has represented JSU in the 5k Walk/Run for 6 of its 7 years. She only missed the year that she had a sprained ankle. Hands on Atlanta Community Service Project • MAC participates with Hands on Atlanta Community service annually. Projects range from planting gardens to refurbishing homes to cleaning local schools. JSU Corporate Tour Project Host approximately 50 JSU students, along with faculty sponsors, for an opportunity to network and interview with some of the most prominent corporations in the Metro Atlanta area. MAC hosted Corporate Tour in 2005, 2006 & 2008 HIV/AIDS Education Project • Metro Atlanta Chapter participated in the JSUNAA HIV/Aids Education and Outreach Project in conjunction with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of Public Health and Science (OPHS), Office of Minority Health (OMH), and HIV/AIDS Health Promotion and Education Cooperative Agreement Program. Yolanda participated and helped coordinate the education project at several locations in the Atlanta Area: o Columbia High School Decatur, GA o Creative Community Services o Dekalb County Regional Youth Detention Center American Cancer Society Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge Community Service Project • Yolanda participates with the chapter during each visit. Events include SWAC Mixer, SWAC Student Recruitment Fair and SWAC Picnic. Yolanda is an active participant and supporter in the events every year. JSU (Atlanta) Jr. King and Queen Pageant • MAC hosted the pageant for several years and Yolanda served as a member of the planning committee and participated on the program or as a judge.

Annual Jazz Brunch Scholarship Fundraiser o Yolanda has personally donated over $3,500 to the Annual jazz brunch and has helped raise another $16,000+ through solicitation from family and friends. Annual Alumni Christmas Party served as a chapter fundraiser for several years JSU Football Jersey/Merchandise Sales Bowling Tournament Levy Restaurants (Georgia Dome) o Chapter members work concession stands at Atlanta Falcons games and receive a portion of proceeds back to the chapter. Yolanda served as team lead for one of the major games. 50/50 Raffle at Alumni Meetings Valentine’s Day Raffle Campaign for JSU (Chapter raised $45,000) August 2007

Narrative: Please provide a brief narrative, no more than 100 words, describing why you are nominating this person as the Alumnus of the Year. I have known Yolanda since high school and she has always shown a great love for JSU. Upon entering college, she was a “servant leader� for the many organizations that she was affiliated. Having worked with her in many capacities within the National Alumni Association, I can state with firsthand knowledge that Yolanda is dedicated and hardworking and very deserving of JSUNAA Alumnus of the Year. Yolanda has a tremendous amount of experience working with alumni, University officials, current and prospective JSU students as well as her community and always uses her resources to benefit JSU in any way possible.
