Public square project in Basmanniy area in Moscow, Russia. Conceived to be submission to an urban space design competition OpenGap in Spain Street art is known as the work of different kinds of artists who use public spaces for expressing their selves through the use of various technics. The street art involves graffiti and other artwork, but always away from vandalism. Being an element that creatively represent the feelings and thoughts of society, street art should have public spaces in the city that allow and not criminalize its practice. Places open to this type of alternative urban culture that link creation, exhibition and teaching of these forms of expression without trying to “institutionalize them. As of today, the public space at its current location (junction of 3rd Syromyatnichesky Pereulok and Verkhnyaya Syromyatnicheskaya str.) is rather dangerous and unwelcoming, with its territory adjoining the railroad and due to lack of proper maintenance. Apart from an urgent need of renovation, this place is also conveniently located between two design centers: Vinzavod and Artplay. On this basis, it was decided to renew this area to create public indoor space that hosts activities related to street art, fostering a climate of creation, education and relationship of users with street art.

The areas adjoining the railroad were used to increase the width of the area. The railroad itself was separated from the location with a high fence, also used to showcase the works of local street artists. The space contains a performance plaza and a performance street with a total area of 1000 m2. That space connects all users and activities of the project. The artwork and performances developed in workshops are showcased on these locations. The space is also a great place for walks and meeting friends, since most part of the roof is covered with grass (over 1500 m2) and has convenient slopes to go up and down the roof. The place also serves as an exhibition spot for graffiti work.
According to provided competition rules, the following zones were designed: Outdoor plaza – open square or street with public access (min 700m2) Workshops – work spaces designed for the work of graphic and plastic artists of different techniques of urban art expression as graffiti, stencil, murals, etc.. (min 4 x 100 m2) Performance studios – spaces for performing arts activities such as dance, or theater (min 2 x 150 m2) Sound studios – rooms for music/sound recording and rehearsals (min 2 x 125 m2) Auditorium – closed space to present to the public performances, concerts and plays (min 500 m2) Bar-café – It must include a table area, bar, kithen and own toilettes (min 200 m2) Services – separate gender toilets, administrative offices for 3-5 people

People’s emotions in Moscow metro I took part in a Strelka workshop dedicated to Moscow Metro system. I looked into the problem of emotional state of people on their way through the Metro system. I studied the factors that can influence their emotional state. I discovered several levels of this problem, from neuro-biological issues to environmental and design issues. By the end of the second day I created this three slide presentation. I explored the possibilities of improving the emotional state of people by simple means. My solution was to impact the passengers on several levels: firstly by creating small spaces that could be easily associated with pleasant experiences, secondly by hinting the positive way of thinking. To achieve the first goal, Metro's stretchy and architecturally unexciting underpasses were to be transformed into the jungle, a large aquarium and a seashore, by means of video projections and ambient audio. The other goal was achieved with text-based posters in the Metro carriages, designed to remind the muscovites of the pleasant experiences they've had in their lives.
Ostrov, a mobile beach system Ostrov helps solve the problem of overcrowded beaches without harming the environment. A small group of people rents an Ostrov, sails away into the calm shore waters and enjoys the sun, the sea and the shade.
Ostrovs are tied to dedicated places near the shore, and are driven over by an on-duty motor boat. Swimming season over, the Ostrovs will get towed to the shore and stored under tents. The deck is designed with slopes to water, a shaded area, a sunbathing area and a toiled with dedicated water supply. The design of the shed minimizes unwanted windage.
