CLEPA represents 120 international automotive suppliers and, via 12 national associations, over 3,000 companies supplying state-of-the-art components and innovative technology for safe, smart and sustainable mobility. The industry invests over €30 billion yearly in research and development. Automotive suppliers directly employ about 1.7 million people in Europe.
The European automotive supply industry is a global technology leader, which is driven by strong investment in R&D of more than 22 billion Euros yearly. European automotive suppliers are world leaders in automotive technology for safe, sustainable and smart mobility.
On the eve of a new European legislature, CLEPA stands united to speak with one voice. The message is to, together, deliver on the twin transition towards sustainable and digital mobility.

Job Summary
CLEPA is looking to hire an inspired Head of Government Affairs for CLEPA to work at their Brussels headquarters. The Head of Government Affairs will be a trusted advisor and key support to the Secretary General, helping CLEPA deliver its core mission and vision.
As a member of the leadership team, the new Head of Government Affairs will play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing the association’s advocacy efforts in Brussels. You will be responsible for developing and implementing effective lobbying strategies, contributing to the setting of the industry agenda, and managing a dedicated team of two professionals. Working closely with the Secretary General, you will be instrumental in achieving our political objectives.
These objectives sit in a broad agenda, working towards smarter, safer and more sustainable mobility whilst supporting an ambitious but flexible regulatory framework in Europe. A holistic approach is needed so that the industry can reach its goals faster and more efficiently. The new Head of Government Affairs will spearhead the actions geared at stimulating innovation and also reducing the regulatory and bureaucratic burden. She/he will foster an environment that allows the European industry play to its strengths, whilst ensuring the necessary public support in delivering the transition.
Areas of focus for the Head of Government Affairs include:
• strengthening and expanding engagement with senior law makers,
• articulating compelling positions and supporting content on behalf of the automotive supply chain, and
• developing a proactive advocacy platform, which will ensure high visibility and a strong voice on issues of interest to CLEPA’s members and in line with the organisation’s mission and vision.
You will be the first point of contact for institutional relations, relevant societal stakeholders and government affairs professionals of CLEPA members. Additionally, you will represent the organisation externally, engaging with the European Commission (directors general, cabinet members, directors, heads of unit), European Parliament (MEPs, key assistants), Member States (permanent representations) and other relevant stakeholders (automotive industry, related sectors, NGOs).
The successful candidate will have an open and engaging personal style and be a self-driven and results oriented team player. He/she will have the ability to work in an international environment, and have the necessary leadership qualities to facilitate exchanges and engage support across the organisation.
Responsibilities
Lobbying Strategy Development:
• Design and execute comprehensive lobbying strategies to engage and influence policymakers, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholders in support of the automotive supply industry.
• Stay abreast of legislative and regulatory developments, identifying opportunities and threats to the industry.
Agenda Setting:
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and members to build consensus on the industry agenda, ensuring alignment with the association’s goals and priorities.
• Proactively identify emerging issues and propose strategic initiatives to address them.
Relationship Building:
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with policymakers, government officials, industry partners, and other relevant stakeholders.
• Represent the association at meetings, conferences, and industry events.
Communication and Advocacy:
• Develop and deliver compelling advocacy messages to effectively communicate the association’s positions and priorities.
• Collaborate with the communications team to ensure a coordinated and impactful approach to public affairs.
Monitoring and Reporting:
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, providing timely updates and analysis to internal stakeholders.
• Prepare regular reports on advocacy activities, achievements, and challenges.
Team Management:
• Lead and manage a team of two public affairs professionals, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure high-performance levels.
• Foster a collaborative and results-oriented team culture.
• Act as an exemplary ambassador in advocacy activities by actively sharing expertise and introducing colleagues into relevant networks where beneficial for the organisation.
• Add value to the CLEPA management team by supporting the overall effectiveness and development of the association.
Candidate Profile
Critical knowledge:
• Excellent “hands on” advocacy skills and knowledge
• Strong advisory ability and experience of engaging with senior leaders
• Strong team engagement track record
• Linguistic skills: fluent in English (written and verbal) and a good knowledge of other main European languages
Qualifications required:
• University degree in Political Science, Public Affairs, Law or a related field.
• Experience of 10+ years, of which 5+ in a leading position
• Proven experience in public affairs, lobbying, or government relations, preferably within the automotive or related industry.
• Experience in the automotive sector or another large industry is a plus. Interest in the world of mobility and a broad view on the European industry and economy are a must.
• Strong understanding of EU institutions, policies, and regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently, results driven, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
