In this role, you will be at the forefront of our team, leading and supervising the People & Purpose team while making significant contributions to our overall success.

As part of the Management Team, the Director of People, Finance and Operations (DPFO) is coresponsible for the management, strategy and results of Mama Cash. The DPFO is responsible for the

organisational systems and infrastructure that support the strategic objectives of Mama Cash. The purpose of the position is to contribute to Mama Cash’s overall mission and sustainability by leading and supporting seamless fiscal, operational (administration, data management, IT, facilities, etc), human resource management (HRM) and learning, monitoring and evaluation (LME) systems, procedures, and processes.

The Role

Job Title: Director of People, Finance & Operations

Reports to: Managing Board (co Executive Directors)

Supervises: Deputy Director, Finance & Grants Administration, IT & Office Management

Salary Scale: 13 (CAO Social Work), full-time (36 hours)

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands

The DPFO leads and has overall responsibility for the People & Purpose (P&P) team, working closely with the Deputy DPFO on operational, financial management, HRM and organisational development related issues. The DPFO has direct management of two of the four functional areas of the team: finance & grants administration, and IT & office management. The Deputy DPFO has direct management of the other two functional areas of the team: HRM and LME.

The Director has five direct reports, supervising the Deputy DPFO, Senior Finance Officer, Audit Manager, Office Manager, and Head of Digital Operations; each senior officer leads their own sub-team. The Deputy deputises for the team Director when the latter is on leave.

Key responsibilities

Team Leadership, Management, and Supervision

Lead and inspire the People & Purpose team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Work collectively with the team to develop a strategy for the People & Purpose area to enable the realisation of our organisational strategic guide. Provide guidance and support to direct reports and sub-teams, ensuring the successful implementation of strategies aligned with our organizational goals. Take charge of team development and explore opportunities for professional growth. Oversee the annual audit and year-end close processes, ensuring adherence to best practices.

Organisational Leadership and Management

Set the long-term strategic direction for the organisation, serving as a role model for effective leadership. Champion our vision and values, instilling a culture of excellence, accountability, transparency, and inclusion among all staff. Make informed strategic and operational decisions that drive our mission forward.

Development and Maintenance of Business Operations Infrastructure

Develop multi-year and annual budgets and plans, incorporating workforce planning and risk management. Uphold the quality management system (ISO) and refine processes and procedures as needed. Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks such as CBF and GDPR, safeguarding Mama Cash’s data, systems, and procedures. Implement robust financial and grant management systems, tailored to meet the unique needs of the women’s, girls’, trans people’s, and intersex people’s groups we support. Establish

efficient administrative systems and provide regular financial reports, including timely preparation of the annual report and accounts. Maintain a secure and user-friendly working environment, both in-office and online, by implementing IT and operational policies and procedures. Foster positive relationships with sector colleagues, staying informed of relevant trends and changes.

This position also involves representing Mama Cash externally to contract partners, consultants, and auditors, showcasing our commitment to transparency and accountability.

Key knowledge and skills requirements

• Strong commitment to Mama Cash’s vision, mission and values including intersectional feminism, JEDI (justice, equity, diversity and inclusion) principles, environmental justice, and the rights of intersex people, trans people, girls and women

• University-level degree or equivalent knowledge of business administration or finance or a relevant and related field

• Knowledge of and experience working in international development, human rights, social justice, environmental justice and/or (funding) feminist movements

• Leadership, management and team-building skills; ability to work (remotely) with professionals from diverse backgrounds

• Experience of leading a team’s strategy development and implementation, in alignment with the organisation’s strategy

• Strategic planning, problem solving and project management skills including the ability to stay focused on details, deadlines and delivery

• Knowledge of financial and IT developments and trends and the ability to translate and implement these into actionable plans

• Financial and accounting skills

• Knowledge of relevant Dutch legislation including as it applies to international (fundraising) organisations

• Knowledge of Dutch human resources legislation, collective labour agreements and the functioning of the

Works Council, including as they apply to international organisations with staff based outside NL

• Organisational development skills, including for hybrid (part physical, part remote), mid-size international organisations that are in a period of growth

• Communications and interpersonal skills (verbal and written, Dutch and English proficiency) with the ability to interact with people from a wide diversity of backgrounds and cultures

• Experience of working with financial and administrative grantmaking processes and systems, as well as working with diverse grantee partners and donor organisations/institutions

• Lived experience of resisting injustice and different forms of systemic oppression including but not limited to sexism, racism, homo-antagonism, transantagonism, classism and/or disablism, and their intersections.
