Manufacture 2030 is a fast-growth, purpose-led company working to accelerate progress towards the necessary carbon reduction targets needed to tackle the biggest challenge of our time. Our unique software platform and dedicated support services help global companies understand and reduce the Scope 3 emissions and other environmental impacts in their supply chains at scale.
Having successfully completed our Series A funding round in March, we are in the midst of a rapid scale-up of the organisation. We are particularly keen to maintain a positive, inclusive culture as we grow, while recognising that we need to evolve our processes across the company, including in how we can better support our people so that together we can achieve our mission.
The Role
Title: Head of People and Culture
Location: UK (hybrid working)*
Salary: 60–70,000 GBP plus share options in a fast-growing company
Reports to: Chief Operations Officer
Direct Reports: Manager, People & Culture

We are now looking for a dynamic Head of People & Culture with experience of overcoming the unique challenges faced by high-growth businesses. This role will lead our People & Culture Team, reporting to the COO. Responsible for all aspects of supporting our colleagues, this role will encompass not only the smooth operation of business as usual, but also to review all relevant processes and evolve where necessary. The successful candidate will be leading the team through to a mature People & Culture offering, with the structures to support our team members and managers, while taking care not to put in place too much bureaucracy.
You will be someone who takes pride in helping others to succeed, are motivated by our mission and able to convey that to others, both within and outside the company. You will be experienced at developing, and gaining buy-in for, relevant People strategies, as well as translating those strategies into effective policies and implementing them successfully in an organisation. You are able to operate equally well at strategic and detail levels, across a wide range of topics, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Strategy Development & Delivery
• Design and implement an effective People Strategy that aligns with, and supports, the overall mission.
• Work alongside the SLT members to ensure our organisational design and structure is ready for future growth.
• Develop a robust and equitable pay and benefits strategy.
Leadership and People Management
• Lead the People & Culture Team through a fast-growth period, developing a mature offering that supports the growing team at Manufacture2030.
• Act as an escalation point for grievances and disciplinary matters.
Policy Development & Implementation
• Regularly review and adapt polices against the changing requirements of a rapidly evolving high-growth business as well as changing legal requirements.
• Ensure that our policies are compliant, consistent and fair, and achieve their aims.
Culture, Values, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
• Through the work of the People and Culture team, promote a positive, inclusive, equitable culture across our organisation as we grow and scale.
• Ensure our values and EDI policies become more than just words and are embedded as a living culture.
• Foster a sense of community, through internal communications and staff engagement.
Operational Management
• Provide a quality Support Service to colleagues at all levels of the business across a range of functions including recruitment, onboarding & induction, learning & development, performance management, benefits, payroll and employee file management.
• Devise and oversee a talent acquisition and retention strategy suitable for our sector, and develop engaging onboarding plans for new employees. Review this periodically to meet the current needs of a changing company.
• Participate in senior-level recruitments and other recruitments as needed, with third party providers if appropriate.
• In the long term, ensure our HR processes evolve and mature to match the needs of our business at each stage of growth, always remaining true to our values.
• Act as a first line expert in relevant employment legislation (but with specialist support back-up).
Continual Improvement
• Develop and implement relevant metrics, as appropriate, to allow us to support our teams to improve.
• Conduct audits to measure practice against policies and ensure we have the actionable metrics to improve.
Person Specification
Required Experience
• Experience of design, development and implementation of a People & Culture strategy and related policies.
• Experience as a senior HR manager with proven leadership skills.
• Organisational design experience, including implementation.
• Change-management experience: Proven ability to positively embed changes in an organisation, gaining buy-in from all stakeholders.
• An up-to-date working knowledge of UK employment law (although external advice will be available for more complex issues).
• Ideally CIPD level 7 or equivalent experience.
Required Skills
• A strong commitment to M2030’s mission and values
• Ability to be both strategic and hands on, as needed, seeing the big picture as well as rapidly grasping the important details of each situation.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle personnel matters with tact and discretion.
• Sound judgement, especially in complex, subjective situations.
• Ability to coach and mentor others and convey complex concepts simply, including in remote contexts.
• Confidence in liaising directly with board members and the Senior Leadership Team.
• Motivation to work in a fast-paced organisation and contribute to the design of company-wide strategy, policies and structures during a growth period.
Desired Experience
• Experience designing, embedding and continuously adapting a People Strategy in a scale-up business or working in a fastgrowth organisation, ideally with a purpose-led mission.
• Experience growing/scaling teams across geographies and working in different cultural contexts.
• Knowledge of US and EU employment law.
