Comprehension Carefully read the following text and answer the questions. Shade your answer on the answer sheet provided by choosing ONE of the options a–e. Marguerite Perey was born in Paris in 1909. She came from a poor family so had to find a good job to be able to support them. She was offered a position as a chemistry technician and worked at Marie Curie’s laboratory in Paris working alongside Marie Curie. Marguerite worked preparing and purifying actinium samples. When Marie Curie died of probable radiation exposure, Marguerite made the amazing decision to continue with extremely dangerous work even though she knew it could kill her. Marie Curie had been born in Poland and so named the element polonium after Poland. Marguerite found a new element that she named after her own country of birth and so found francium. As expected, Marguerite Perey died at the age of 65 from a radiation-linked illness. Her body was incredibly radioactive, but her sacrifice in the laboratories helped to save the lives of many generations of scientists.
