CHAMBER AND EDF

The Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Foundation are two entities sharing a common staff and facility, and with similar but distinct missions to enhance the community’s business environment. For newcomers, it’s worth a stop by the chamber office to meet the staff and browse the stacks of business cards and handouts. It can be a good starting point for learning about your new community and finding the services you need here.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

The Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce is the most dynamic business organization in our community, where businesses and professionals come together to work to improve the business climate and quality of life for our area.

With more than 682 members, the Chamber strives to under-take programs and projects, which seek a positive business climate conducive to growth of the private enterprise system, raising per capita income and providing strong financial, physical and human resources, for the citizens of Oxford and Lafayette County. As a business organization, these goals are accomplished through a variety of networking opportunities, business referrals, leadership programs, or other resources available exclusively to Chamber members. The Chamber also has newcomer packets readily available at their office, packed with helpful information for those individuals and families new to the Oxford-Lafayette

County area. These packets may be downloaded on the website as well.

A full list of members and membership benefits can be found on the Chamber web-site at www.oxfordms.com.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

EDF’s mission is to create jobs and investment by assisting with the creation and/or recruitment of new business and supporting existing ones through a publicprivate partnership. The goal is to keep existing jobs and grow new ones, expanding opportunities for both local workers and businesses.

EDF staff facilitates visits to town by industry executives, acting as hosts to show off potential business sights and provide a thorough tour of the area. When industries show interest, EDF’s job is to work with those executives and local and state governments to clear the way of any obstacles while facilitating the location of the project.

The EDF has had many of its points of pride to celebrate over the years; such as securing the location of the VA

Nursing Home and industries like Caterpillar Inc. and Olin-Winchester’s Rimfire and Centerfire Division. The EDF has also facilitated the expansion of numerous existing businesses and industries: Its most recent, the expansion of Olin-Winchester’s Centerfire Division, which will bring approximately1,000 jobs over a five-year period with a $100 million investment. It’s since had a key role in promoting a technology agenda by facilitating the growth of the LOU Entrepreneurial Alliance; and establishing partnerships with the University of Mississippi’s School of Business, Center for Manufacturing Excellence and Innovation HUB at Insight Park. Among cur-rent projects, EDF continues to promote

Oxford through its highly successful Retiree Attraction

Program; working with the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors on upgrades to the Lafayette County Industrial Park, and in promoting the development f Oxford’s creative economy and tourism efforts.
