As a foreign national, you do not need to be a Maltese resident to purchase property, there are many rules and regulations to make the buying process seamless for international buyers. To purchase property anywhere on the island, you will need an AIP (Acquisition of Immovable Property) Permit, with an exception to this rule if you purchase property within an SDA (Special Designated Area). If you purchase property within an SDA Development, there is no limit to the amount of properties purchased and no need for an AIP permit.
