Friends, just because the Lord did not return January 1, 2000, as many expected, does not mean He will never return! Many questions naturally arise regarding the second coming of Christ. Let us always keep in mind that all things necessary for “life and godliness” (2 Pet.1:3) are revealed in the B!ble, and we must not go beyond that which is written in God’s word (Rev 22:18-19). There have always been false views pertaining to the second coming of Christ. Many have appeared on the scene of time advocating the exact date of Christ’s return. All of these and their likes have proved themselves to be false phophets time and time again! Does God reveal to some “special ones” when Christ will return? Let the Bible answer this question. “But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father” (Mk.13:32). Now, that ought to settle the question once and forevermore! It is truly amazing for anyone to say they accept God’s word as the final authority in religious matters; yet will reject what He has revealed in Scripture! Remember, when one-rejects the Scriptures they are rejecting God (Jn.12:48)! Still others will observe weather conditions and boldly assert, “These are signs of our Lord’s approaching return!” Listen, there have always been earthquakes, famines, wars, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc., and will be until the end of time. It is incorrect to state that the Bible gives certain signs of Christ’s return. As for Matthew 24, an examination of this chapter reveals two matters under consideration: 1) The destruction of Jerusalem and 2) The return of Christ. The events Jesus described in Matthew 24:1-34 have already occurred at the destruction Jerusalem in A.D.70! A key verse that proves this is Matthew 24:34, “Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.” Yes, Jesus could return at any time or for that matter seven thousand years from now, but ONLY GOD KNOWS! Let us heed the words of Jesus in Matthew 24:42,44 “Watch therefore; for ye know not what hour your Lord deeth come ... Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” Friends, do you really believe in Christ’s second coming and are you prepared for the Lord’s return? If not a Christian obey the gospel by faith (Jn.8:24), repentance (Lk.13:3), confession (Mat.1 0:32) and baptism “for the remission of sins” (Ac.2:38). If an unfaithful child of God repent and come home today (Jas.5:19-20)! A final thought, if Christ had returned before you read this article, where would you be spending eternity?!

UNDERSTANDING THE MESSAGE OF THE PROPHETS “HOSEA – INTRODUCTION – BACKGROUND”

“And the Lord said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel” (Hosea 1:4). Hosea’s prophecy (750 – 725 BC) came about 20 to 30 years before the fall of the Northern Kingdom (Israel) to the Assyrians (721 BC). Thus, it was a message of doom. Religiously, they had no knowledge of God or His ways, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing that thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children” (Hosea 4:6). In the words of Hosea, she was given to spiritual whoredom, “The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea. And the Lord said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord” (Hosea 1:2). Jeroboam had led Israel into calf worship and Jezebel and Ahab had led Judah into Baal worship. The whole land was given to spiritual whoredom. Morally the people were in decay. The lack of spirituality had led to moral corruption. “The people were guilty of swearing, breaking faith, murder, stealing, committing adultery, deceit, lying, drunkenness, dishonesty in business, and other crimes equally abominable before Jehovah [(4:2,11,12,18; 6:8-9; 10:4; 13:1-2; etc.)” Homer Hailey, The Minor Prophets, p. 129]. “By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood” (Hosea 4:2), and, “Whoredom and wine and new wine tare away the heart” (Hosea 4:11). Spiritual abandonment leads to moral decay. Spiritual poverty leads to moral depravity which in turn leads to political and social upheaval. Hailey writes, “Upon the death of Jeroboam, His son Zechariah reigned for only six months, being unable to maintain his throne for a longer period. He was slain by Shallum, who reigned in his stead (2nd Kings 15:8-12). Shallum reigned for only one month, and was slain by Menahem, who assumed the throne and ruled for ten years (2nd Kings 15:13). At the death of Menahem, Pekahiah, his son, succeeded him (2nd Kings 15:17-22). Pekahiah reigned two years and was slain in Samaria by a conspiring captain Pekah. During the reign of Pekah, Tiglathpileser (who reigned over Assyria from (745 to 727 BC) began his conquest of northern Israel” [(2nd Kings 15:29) Homer Hailey, The Minor Prophets, p. 130]. No wonder Hosea penned, “They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver, and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off” (Hosea 8:4). Instead of turning back to God, they sought to the nations for wealth, health, and deliverance, “When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: yet could he not heal you, nor cure you of your wound” (Hosea 5:13). America’s leaders, like those of Hosea’s day, are spiritually bankrupt, and morally and ethically corrupt. Thus social and political upheavals are the rule of the day. As Israel turned unto the nations for healing and help, our leaders are turning unto the “New World Order”, a one world Humanistic government. Unless we appoint leaders who are willing to seek unto God for healing, America’s wounds will never be cured. This is the main message of Hosea to us of today!

The family fed me, but could not keep me. When TASTC picked me up, I was still very hungry, my nails were badly overgrown, and I was covered in fleas. So many fleas in fact, that I had scratched a lot of my hair right off! I have put on some weight now, my nails are trimmed, I have no more fleas, I’ve been dewormed, and my hair is growing back! I am heartworm negative, neutered, and current on my vaccines. I’m a very sweet boy, and I really need a comfy home to retire in! I am around 10 years old, but I still have a lot of love in me!
