UNDERSTANDING THE MESSAGE OF THE PROPHETS “MICAH – FOR THE SIN OF MY SOUL” “Wherewith shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before the high God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul” (Micah 6:6-7)? Man’s salvation would come at a high price. But, it could not be purchased by silver or gold, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;” (1st Peter 1:18). Nor could the blood of bulls or of goats take away sin, “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins” (Hebrews 10:4). Although the soothing oil contains miraculous healing power, as Micah pointed out above, it cannot remove the guilt of sin, “And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them (Mark 6:13 and Micah 6:6-7, above). Even the innocent soul of a child could not be exchanged for man’s sin, “And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart” (Jeremiah 7:31). None of the above could or can atone for sin. The Hebrew writer penned, “Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:” (Hebrews 10:5). God would not accept the offering of another’s firstborn, but He would offer His own firstborn to atone for man’s sin, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Jesus was/is the sacrificial “Lamb of God”, “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). Unlike the innocent child, whom the parent selfishly murdered in an attempt to atone for their own guilty soul, God, in the personage of Jesus Christ, became the willing sacrifice for all, “… I lay down my life for the sheep … Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life … No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself, I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father” (John 10:15-18). Man’s salvation came with a mighty cost to God the Father and God His Son. However, this sacrificial blood is not automatically applied for the salvation of the soul. It is in the watery grave of baptism where God washes away the sin of man through the blood of Christ. Peter told those on Pentecost, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38). Ananias told Saul, “And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 22:16). Peter later wrote, “The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us…” (1st Peter 3:21). Jesus told His disciples, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” (Mark 16:16). Peter asked those of the household of Cornelius, “Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized…” (Acts 10:47)? Until I am baptized, the blood of Christ has not yet been applied for the sin of my soul. Dear Reader, have you been baptized into Christ?

GOD HAS NOT & WILL NOT CHANGE HIS MIND ABOUT ABORTION!

Why is it that many young people accept abortion as an acceptable alternative? No doubt, many factors have contributed to this, but the number one reason lies at the feet of parents! Parents have the responsibility of properly teaching their children (Eph.6:4). This certainly includes abortion. Parents need to teach their children that abortion is not fetal tissue or some kind of blob of protoplasm, but a real, live baby! In an excellent article entitled, Abortion, Wesley Simons lists the nine steps of human life: (1.) Conception: Human life begins. (2.) 18-25 Days: Heart begins to beat. (3.) 6 Weeks: Baby begins to move; brain waves are already present and can be recorded on an electroencephalogram. (4.) 7 Weeks: If the baby’s lip is tickled, he will pull away. (5.) 7 Weeks: Grabs, swims freely, electrocardiogram can be used to record heart impulse. (6.) 10 Weeks: At this stage the baby is so perfectly formed that he even has fingertips. (7.) 12 Weeks: Breathes (fluid), sucks thumb, swallows, tastes, cries, sleeps and wakes; all organ systems functioning, including mental. (8.) Beyond 12 Weeks: Nothing new is formed; the baby begins to grow rapidly. (9.) Birth: Exits from the womb, breathes air, takes his food by mouth. Babies are human and made “in the image of God” (Gen.1:26)! We are informed, regarding human life in Jeremiah 1 :5, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou earnest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee ...” After reading Psalm 139:13-16, one quickly sees that God recognizes a baby in the womb, “For thou hast possessed my reins; thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are thy works and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in .. secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance ... “ Well over twenty million precious innocent babies have been murdered while still in their mother’s womb! It is truly shocking to realize that the far majority of abortions (some estimate as high as 99%) are for convenience! The Bible clearly states, “thou shalt not kill” (Rom.13:9)! My friends, whenever a society is more concerned about dogs, cats, snails, trees, global warming and whales than about human life, it speaks volumes! People would rise up in arms if a bill were passed which terminated the incompetent, the retarded, the handicapped, a minority group of people and the aged. Friends, wherein lies the difference regarding the aforementioned and abortion? Murder is murder and those who practice such, as well as those who give their consent stand condemned before God and will not enter heaven (Gal.5:19-21; Rom.1:28-32)! What should a child of God do if they have had an abortion? They should humble themselves before God (Jas.4: 10) repent and confess their sins unto Him, and He will graciously cleanse them with the blood of Christ (I Jno.1:7 -9). No, God has not and will not change His mind about abortion!

OMC offers a variety of ways for you to educate yourself on heart health during Heart Month in February! Don’t miss these events. February 2: Free Community Education Dinner A free community education dinner from 6 to 7 p.m. at OMC Parkway Center. Dr. Faisal Khan, Interventional Cardiologist at OMC Heart Care Services will speak on heart and vein health. The dinner is free, but reservations are required. Call 417-257-6793 for reservations.

February 10: Free Heart Risk Screening ~ West Plains A free Heart Health Screening will take place from 6:30 to 10 a.m. February 10 at OMC Heart Care Services, 1115 Alaska Avenue, Suite 114. The screening includes a lipid panel, glucose, A1C, blood pressure check, and a Vein Screening. Fasting is required for testing. The event is free and no appointment is necessary except for the Vein Screening (for Venous Insufficiency). Additional low cost labs also are available for a minimal fee. February 16: Couch to 5K Information Session It's time to get moving! Learn more about the Couch to 5K program at 5:30 p.m. at the Willard Hunter Classroom in OMC Parkway Center. Join OMC employees leading evening workout sessions or workout on your own with the Couch to 5K phone app. The Couch to 5K program is free, but registration is required in a Fun Run event (1.5 mile walk, 5K or 10K). All Couch to 5K participants will receive a free t-shirt in addition to the Fun Run t-shirt. Workout sessions will begin the week of February 27. Missouri’s Complex Fence Laws to be Explained A program to discuss Missouri’s Complicated Fence Law will be held on Monday, February 13th from 6:30 to 9:00 PM. The meeting will be at the Howell County Extension Center located at 1376 Bill Virdon Blvd, West Plains, MO. There is a $15 charge for this meeting that covers the program

and materials. Pre-paid registration is required. To pre-register contact the Howell County Extension Center at 417-256-2391. Registration deadline is February 10th. “Missouri continues to have a very complicated fence law, in large part due to the fact that 2

separate laws cover the state depending on the county that your land is in”, according to Joe Koenen, Agricultural Business Specialist with University of Missouri Extension, who will be presenting the program that night. “If you own land you really need to know the law and how it impacts you

whether you own livestock or not”. Furthermore, in 2016 a portion of the law was changed to address livestock liability that affects livestock and nonlivestock owners alike,” said Joe. Other problems are that both laws are subject to interpretation and can be a little different, depending

on the county you are in. A comparison of both laws will be given at this program. Joe has been presenting programs on the fence law for over 25 years throughout the state, including via Adobe Connect and TV. Landowners need to be aware of what the law is in their county and this meeting will help them better understand their rights and responsibilities.

This program will be presented via Skype for Business, so attendees can see the presentation and ask questions of the presenter. It allows the presenter (Joe) to talk to several folks in a wide area without traveling to each location. Here is my story: I was the beloved pet of a kind elderly lady. I lived with her my entire life. One day, she tripped over me as I was laying in the floor, and broke her hip. Her family gave her the option: to surrender me to TASTC, or they would do the unspeakable. I am so glad TASTC was able to take me in. While I am thankful for this roof over my head, and the kind people who take care of me... I long for a home of my own. I need a person who will love me, and pet me every day. I need to be part of the family. I have a few particular needs however. I am very scared of loud noises. Even if I hear a far away gunshot, I must get inside immediately. Therefore, I must find a home that either has a large doggie door (no worries, I can wait while you install one), or a home where I can be inside with you and be taken out with supervision. I also either need a fenced yard, or to be taken out on leash each time. For these reasons, it has been hard for me to find my perfect home. I am a dog that provisions must be made for, but if you adopt me you won’t find a more true friend.
