Doris (Darcy) was born Doris Jackson to Frank E. and Ethel Leah Jackson in Hollis Oklahoma on April 11 , 1929. She attended Central High School in Oklahoma City and worked during most of this time. She was a part of a work-study “zero-hour” program at school, and she also worked at T.G.Y. Five & Dime store. She married her husband, Bobby Lee Brixey, when she was twenty years old. He was originally from Mountain Home and they honeymooned there. Darcy fell in love with the area and in 1950 they moved. The two of them opened a drive-in theatre in 1952 and kept it open for 31 years! They had two sons together, Dwight and Ron. At the age of 61, Bobby Lee passed away after nearly 40 years of marriage. At 61 years old, Darcy married Joseph Burghard. They were married for 18 years before his passing three years ago. She was blessed with two granddaughters and three great granddaughters. She has lived at RiverLodge since April of this year and states that she is very happy here. She especially enjoys the activities! Darcy is a joy to be around and she is very encouraging to other residents. Her own words say it best: “Life is what you make it, so why not just have fun!”
