Bodrum is a district and a port city in Muğla Province, in the southwestern Aegean Region of Turkey. It is located on the southern coast of Bodrum Peninsula, at a point that checks the entry into the Gulf of Gökova, and is also the center of the eponymous district. The city was called Halicarnassus of Caria in ancient times and was famous for housing the Mausoleum of Mausolus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Bodrum Castle, built by the Knights Hospitaller in the 15th century, overlooks the harbour and the marina. The castle grounds include a Museum of Underwater Archaeology and hosts several cultural festivals throughout the year. Halicarnassus was an ancient Greek city at the site of modern Bodrum in Turkey. Halicarnassus were founded by Dorian Greeks, and the figures on its coins, such as the head of Medusa, Athena or Poseidon, or the trident, support the statement that the mother cities were Troezen and Argos. The inhabitants appear to have accepted Anthes, a son of Poseidon, as their legendary founder, as mentioned by Strabo, and were proud of the title of Antheadae. Bodrum has a Mediterranean climate. A winter average high of 15 °C (59 °F) and in the summer 34 °C (93 °F), with very sunny spells. Summers are hot and mostly sunny and winters are mild and humid.

Unique view of Bitez Blue Coast waiting you... Bitez is a town in Bodrum district of the Muğla Province. It is situated in Bodrum Peninsula at. It is almost merged with Bodrum which is just 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) east of Bitez. It is a coastal town and a popular summer resort. The settled population of Bitez is 8155 as of 2011. But during the summer months the population is much higher. Bitez Beach & Bay is approximately 6km from Bodrum, and has a cresent shaped cove with a long sandy beach. Bitez Beach and bay is known as an ideal location for water sports, because of it’s calm and shallow waters. It attracts beginner windsurfers in the morning, and in popular with intermediate and advanced windsurfers in the afternoon when the off-shore winds pick up. Bitez, is one of the most popular beach resorts on the Aegean. But it’s also a must-visit for history lovers. Not only is it the site of one of the Wonders of the Ancient World – the now-destroyed Mausoleum of Halicarnassus – but it’s also home to the fascinating Museum of Underwater Archaeology, inside St Peter’s Castle on the waterfront. Here you can see ancient treasures recovered from sunken ships, and 2 reconstructed shipwrecks – one dating from the Bronze Age.
