Encourage, motivate, and educate youth at an early age about the importance of health, wellness, and fitness Alphafit is a company that produces interactive children books that are educational and which assist in promoting and sustaining healthy habits in young children. These habits are developed through literacy and physical activity. We believe that healthy activity is as simple as ABC. As a result, in “Jacob’s ABC’s of Exercise,” we have assigned each letter of the alphabet to an exercise. The goal is to establish and reinforcement the importance of becoming active and staying healthy at an early age. Alpha Fit is grateful for the opportunity to be featured in your magazine. As the author of “Jacob’s ABC’s of Exercise,” we believe that this feature would be excellent for your readers who are parents, educators, and/or involved with children related organizations. With childhood obesity and diabetes on the rise, more adults are taking interest in the health and fitness of their children and our youth. Bulsby ‘Buzz’ Duncan, a resident of Maryland and the author and illustrator of this book, provides many children fitness sessions to schools, camps, non-profit and fitness organizations throughout the country. His book is ideal for children’s fitness because it combines exercising with

learning the alphabet, how to count, the parts of the body, and directional movement. Children can perform these exercises by themselves and/or with their parents or friends depending on their age. They is currently no other book on the market like “Jacob’s ABC’s of Exercise.” Along with "Jacob's ABC's of Exercise" we have recently published an 'Instruction Manual' which provides structured activities which included the exercises from Jacob. These 2 books together teaches and reinforces the benefits of being active. Alphafit, LLC was created and

founded in October of 2011 by Mr. Bulsby O. Duncan, CEO & President of Alphafit. Alphafit wants to help encourage, motivate, and educate youth at an early age about the importance of health, wellness, and fitness in relation to how these aspects play an important role in the

lives and future in children’s early development. Mr. B. Duncan is an author, illustrator, artist, and ACE certified trainer with a clinical background. He also has a bachelor degree in Health Science from Lincoln University; PA. Mission: To help in the fight against childhood obesity and provide a broad range of essential educational tools (e.g. books, DVDs, web links, and etc) and opportunity to inspire the youth with fundamental skills of physical fitness, confidence building, character, and increasing their knowledge in the importance of exercise. Alphafit, LLC wants to connect with the support of the community resources, libraries, and network media(e.g. radio, TV., newspaper, etc.) in order to provide a dynamic working relationship with all entities in promoting a change in the attitude towards the importance of exercise and being more active. Rilya Alert MISSING: HAVE YOU SEEN ME? Shateema Harrison DOB: Jan 5, 2000 Missing: Jun 14, 2013 Height: 5'1" (155cm) Weight: 98lbs (44kg) Eyes: Brown Race: Black Age Now: 13 Sex: Female Hair: Black Missing From: SACRAMENTO CA. Shateema was last seen on June 14, 2013. She may travel to Yuba City, Cali fornia. Shateema's ears are pierced. She has a scar above her left eye. ANYONE HAVING INFOR MATION SHOULD CONTACT: National Center for Missing & Exploited Children 1-800-843-5678 (1-800-THE-LOST) or Sacramento County Sher if's Office (California) 1-916-874-5115

Shateema Harrison is missing and her family is still looking for her. It has been four months. Shateema is a 13year old female, 5’1, 98 lbs. She was last seen at the Big Lots on Watt Avenue in La Riviera at 2pm on June 14, 2013, wearing blue basketball shorts, white shirt, with a red jacket and riding a scooter. She is a student at Albert Einstein and has friends in Rosemont and La Riv in Sacramento County, and at Mills Middle School in Rancho Cordova. I wasn’t able to get much information on this case, only that Shateema’s family just want to know if she is okay. Like any mother wondering why; if any, would someone deliberately keep information that’s so critical in bring home any missing person is beyond my comprehension. Something caught my attention, on some of the missing persons sites, they have Shateema as a runaway, even so, she is still missing and I hope that people would take her status as missing just as serious. Just like the day before, too many of our children are being misguided, misled, abused, neglect12 P.E.A.S Magazine

ed, not sure when this all will cease to exist, hopefully that time is not far away. No family should have to end their day not knowing what, where, how, why a child just seems to disappear off the face of the earth. In the case of Shateema Harrison their may not be much information to share, but what Peas Magazine/Peas In Their Pods can do is guarantee that her face/information continues to be visible to the public. We need your help in locating Shateema Harrison along with all our missing children. Every second is critical. What do you know? Any and all information is valuable in helping to solve these cases. One would wonder; if she is still alive, saw the photo’s, information circulating about her, would she come forward or stay hidden out of fear. Like Shateema and so many more of our missing children the question always remains the same…”Where Are They?”, and why won’t anyone come forward in helping families find closure. “A Test of Faith...Fight or Take Flight?” Paula Whitebear-Burton One can never define what it means to truly have faith amidst a storm if the individual seeks flight instead of the fight…hmmm, sounds strange and even looks strange reading it back to myself as I type this encouragement letter, but it speaks volumes when you look at the various situations that we have to endure. In the past several months loss has been what seems to be my everyday routine, and I’m not speaking of small losses as in something material that one can eventually get back. I’m speaking of losses of loved ones near and dear to me. To date, it was only 2 months, 1 week, and 5 days ago that I lost my father in law, and while many people may not have that strong attachment to their in-laws, my father in law was a man that I said daddy to more often than not…calling him when I needed that one word that would set me back on track, a man that knew I was dealing even without telling him that I was. Wow…I can’t even imagine how he could know just what to say that made me look at things in a more spiritual realm than in the natural, and now he’s gone. I seriously can’t complain as God allowed him to be on this earth for 90 years and in my life for over a decade, yet it feels like this aching in my heart has yet to heal once again is the same aching that my heart still feels after losing my grandfather 16 years ago. What such great men of God, and even more of blessing to have had the time with them that I have had. Today, my heart goes out to and stays steadfast in prayer for all those that need encouragement. Trust and believe God makes no mistakes, not even when we have sure fire position that He has had to make a mistake for us to be dealing with the situations that we have to deal with. Just as I told a friend of mine today whose mother was recently admitted back into the hospital wrestling with cancer, which is tearing her kidneys down… while we have no idea why things are the way that they are or why there is so much pain, we have to know for certain that God is in full control. While we are sitting back asking ourselves why, He is saying “why not” because there is a purpose and plan for everything that takes place in our lives and even when we can’t see that purpose or figure out that plan, the situation was already in God’s design for our lives. We have to encourage one another, and at times even encourage ourselves, we have to build each other up instead of tearing each other down, we have to be mindful that even as we stand in the midst of our own personal storms there may be someone that crosses our path that is dealing with a tsunami within their lives. I didn’t fall to stay down, in fact the quote that I continuously meditate on is “What we do does not define us…what defines us is how well we rise after falling.” So what do you do? Do you have faith, stand, and fight; or do you doubt your faith and take flight? Faith is defined in the Bible as the substance of things

13 P.E.A.S Magazine

hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). Even if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can move mountains…and just think, here I was just the other day asking God why does He keep allowing me to go through these same situations, when the reality is, as I told my friend, I should be saying thank you Jesus for it all anyhow. The thing is, we are not fighting a natural battle, we are fighting a spiritual battle, a battle that is requiring us to be prayed up, steadfast in the Word, and continuously speaking praise even when we’re going through. When you’ve cried all the tears you can cry, keep in mind that weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in morning. No one is immune to the trials and tribulations of life; they are just “A Test of Faith…”, but it’s your choice on whether you will “…Fight or Take Flight.”

"The World Is Waiting On You" Eltonette “Elle” Harris. World Wide Women Group Incorporated is a nonprofit organization founded in July of 2009 by Eltonette “Elle” Harris. This organization started as a project in graduate school and turned into an “aha-moment” for Elle. For the first time in life she became face to face with her purpose, and she has not turned back since. In May of 2010, Elle created an eight week summer program that catered to young girls from the ages of 13 to 18. The topics were taken from a case study done by the CEO and so the program covered: reputation, self-esteem, makeup, interview outfits, fitness, and much more. This program gave Elle a glimpse of what lied ahead for WWW Group. Elle became heavily involved with several organizations in the community over the next two years, in order to gain experience in the non-profit world. In May of 2013, World Wide Women Group became an incorporated non-profit organization recognized by the state of Virginia. Today’s initiative of World Wide Women Group is to promote a positive image of women. We are vested in reconnecting women and fostering them through different programming, that will birth healthy relationships. We intend to resurface the images of bitterness, distrust, and sometimes hate through community, education, mentorship, and love. We were able to galvanize these efforts this summer when we hosted our first annual “Return to Royalty Rally”, held July 13th. This event had 18 vendors that each offered services that catered to women, and it included a day full of acts, zumba, dancing, and prizes. World Wide Women Group is an umbrella that will cover several projects in the future. Currently, there is Junior Program Management Executive Project that trains college women for leadership, an image consulting project, iNSPIRE Me mentoring, and the HER Story video series. The HER Story video series is one of our most known projects. The video series sheds light on the stories of women who are overcomers or hope to inspire women all over the world. 16 P.E.A.S Magazine

CARROT CAKE CAKE 2 cups all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1 3/4 cups white sugar 1 cup vegetable oil 3 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 cups shredded carrots 1 cup flaked coconut 1 cup chopped walnuts 1 (8 ounce) cans crushed pineapple, drained 1/2 cup raisins (optional) FROSTING 1 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened 1/4 cup butter, softened 2 cups icing sugar Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan, or 2 round cake pans. Mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon; make a well in the center and add sugar, oil, eggs and vanilla. Mix with wooden spoon until smooth. Stir in carrots, coconut, walnuts, raisins, and pineapple. Pour into cake pan and bake for about 45 minutes for 9x13 pan or about 30 minutes for round layers, until toothpick comes out clean. Don't panic, the center will sink a little. Allow to cool; when cool, ice the cake. You can certainly use your favorite cream cheese frosting to ice this cake, but the one I've included is highly recommended (I usually leave the cake in the 13x9 pan and just frost the top). To make the frosting: Cream the butter and cream cheese until smooth; add the icing sugar and beat until creamy. Garnish cake with chopped walnuts. 22 P.E.A.S Magazine
