2 1 20 As Britain prepares for the arrival of the 2012 Olympics in August, there is another sporting event for us to look forward to … Sport Relief! Men, women, children and celebrities all get together in the world of sport to help raise money for people living tough lives in the UK and across the world. This year, Sport Relief is taking place from Friday March 23 to Sunday March 25. With over a million people expected to join in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile, you too can get involved
This year, David Walliams kicked off Sport Relief with a splash when he announced he would swim the Thames for the charity. He embarked on the epic 140-mile swim down the stinky, dirty River Thames, picking up a tummy bug and other illnesses on the way. Nevertheless, he completed his amazing challenge in just eight days and raised more than £1 million.

Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton has become a wonderful ambassador for Sport Relief having kayaked the 2000 miles of the Amazon River and walked across a tightrope suspended between the chimneys of Battersea Power Station. This year, Helen has managed to go one step further, again. On January 4, Helen set off on her Polar Challenge to cross 500 miles by ski, kite-ski and bike to reach the South Pole. We will see how Helen fared on the live show. What will she do next year? But, you don’t have to go to the extreme of swimming the Thames or skiing to the South Pole to raise money for Sport Relief! You can do your bit by simply walking one mile. For just £6 for adults and £3 for children, you can enter the Sport Relief
