Mishaal stresses the right of peoples to resist occupation

Khaled Mishaal, chairman of the political bureau of Hamas movement, stressed that the Palestinian people and factions have the right to resist the occupation, according to international norms and conventions. This came during a speech delivered by Mishaal at a forum in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday. The Palestinian leader stressed that the Palestinian people›s resistance to the occupation is a legitimate right guaranteed by all religions and international conventions, and is not opposed to moderation and centrism. He noted: «The Americans resisted the English occupier and the French people resisted the Nazi occupier, so why don›t they recognize the right of our people to resist the Israeli occupation and why do they describe the Palestinian resistance as terrorism.» The Hamas supreme leader accused the United States and Israel of disrupting the

process of the Palestinian national reconciliation, and said: «The United States has put pressure and threats on the Palestinian Authority in order to thwart the agreements that have been reached between Fatah and Hamas movements.» He added that Israel is using the negotiations to mislead the world, and called upon the international community «to confront the Israeli extremism and occupation and to support the Palestinians› right to freedom and independence.» «The negotiations have lasted for more than 20 years, since 1991 in Madrid. The Palestin-

ian people have gained nothing from the negotiation process, while Israel has been using it to cover up its crimes and to impose new realities on the ground», Mishaal said. He hailed, on behalf of the Palestinian people, the continuous Malaysian support for the Palestinian cause, and expressed his appreciation for the visit by the Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak to the besieged Gaza Strip. He also called on Malaysia and the international community to support the issue of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Mishaal: Muslim countries thirst for democracy and freedom

4/12/2013 Head of Hamas›s political bureau Khaled Mishaal said that the liberation of Palestine cannot be achieved through peace negotiations with the Israeli occupation but through struggle and resistance. In a speech at the International Islamic University Malaysia organized in collaboration with Palestinian Cultural Organization Malaysia (PCOM), Mishaal said that the solution to the Palestinian cause cannot be found in the peace process, which the Palestinian people had tried for many years. He stated that during the long years of the peace process, the Judaization of Palestine and the suffering of its occupied people increased. «Let›s use some logic to compare between what has been achieved by the negotiations and the resistance. The outcome of the negotiations is

zero, whereas the resistance option led to the liberation of Gaza, the prisoners, and southern Lebanon. Egypt as well liberated its land during the October war,» Mishaal stated. Mishaal also highlighted the blockade on Gaza and accused Israel of being behind the involvement of some Arab countries in Gaza siege. He hailed Malaysian premier Najib Razaq for his solidarity visit last year to Gaza and said that his visit had reflected the commitment of Malaysia to breaking the Gaza siege and supporting the Palestinian people›s struggle for freedom and independence.

istence, partnership with others, protection of human dignity and humanity, equal opportunities and development of the society. «Development, education, technology and prosperity - all these basic things are important towards the renaissance of the ummah (Muslim community). Our ummah that has a glorious past, has the ability and capability to reclaim their past and become developed and progressive nations,» he said. Meshaal also urged Muslims all over the world to spread ethical values and love among them, and to be strong in confronting the real enemies of Islam.

«Knowledge is also an important scope which the ummah should strive for apart from continuing to be in solidarity with the Palestinian people in every aspect,» he «The people of Arab and Muslim told the hundreds of students and countries thirst for democracy be- academics including Palestinian cause they want freedom, coex- students who attended the talk. Malaysian support valued The positive stand by Malaysia in support of Palestinians as well as Hamas is well appreciated by its political leader, Khaled Meshaal. The visit by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to Gaza in January had legitimised the struggles by Hamas for Palestine and its people, Meshaal said through a translator yesterday. «We have long appreciated Malaysia›s relationship and continuous support. Hamas› role is important and often seen as a sign of hope. So it is natural to have support from others. «At our meeting with the prime minister, officials from Umno and the government on Tuesday, we discussed Palestinian reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah (both political factions), which is of national interest. «Our obstacle is Israeli and American intervention. We hope the proposed mediation by Malaysia will help in Palestinian reconciliation, especially in overcoming our obstacle.» Meshaal refused to make any official comment on Egypt, 10 |

stating it was natural for people in all countries wanting to achieve democracy and leaders in those countries should be mature enough to realise this. «We see the issue in Egypt as a domestic matter and whoever is ruling the country should resolve it. Our battle is with Israel because our enemy is Israel.» He said many Muslim countries were beset with problems, divisions and weakness but did not have a common strategy to face Israel. However, they supported Hamas, Palestine and the Palestinian people. On a lighter note, Meshaal said there was a possibility of him being part of the social media world like Twitter but he wanted to be able to give his full commitment to his followers. «I believe in the media, modern and social. Technology and the Internet have allowed us to interact more actively,» he said. «Even the Hamas movement and some leaders are using social media to engage with the people but if I go on Twitter, I would like to have direct contact with my followers”. «Right now, I am very busy but maybe I will use it one day», he added.

Insya-Allah.
