Melamine finishes are typically referred to as a laminate, but they are very different LPM, or Low Pressure Melamine, is produced and supplied as pre-finished decorative board on a substrate (usually particleboard or MDF) in various thicknesses Commonly used in furniture production and most standard cabinetry applications, Melamine offers a high quality, value-for-money finish
HPM, or High Pressure Laminate, is manufactured in sheets and needs to be applied to a substrate during the furniture production process The decorative, coloured surface is thicker and more durable than Melamine and is designed for high use, medium impact areas such as kitchen bench tops and wall panelling, or where the desired finish is not available in Melamine Laminate is always a more expensive option
There’s also chemical-resistant HPL, for use in laboratories, and fire-rated HPL, for compliance with specific fire safety standards
