Introduction Can it be pronounced as only one? Accidentally, while discussing some long English vowel sounds we found an example of four vocalic sounds that keep tied as only one syllable: quiet, which can be phonologically represented as this: /kuáiet/, /kuáiEt, or /quáiEt/. If this is correct, then we have an example of four vocalic English sounds which stays as a single syllable: four thong?, forthon or forthong? How can we name it? Please, you are invited to make a research to confirm if there is something similar documented before today. Otherwise, we are the first proponents of such finding. Do we say /qui-et/, /kw-ai-et/? Or we deliver quiet in a single syllable as /kuáiEt/?
