New Visiting International Faculty Teachers Welcomed to Loudoun County Loudoun County Public Schools welcomed 29 new Visiting International Faculty (VIF) teachers to the county on Monday, August 13th, during a dinner and reception at Stone Bridge High School. The welcoming reception provided an opportunity for the new VIF teachers to meet their principal, Loudoun County School Board members and LCPS administrators. The Visiting International Faculty Program is the country’s largest cultural exchange program for teachers and schools. Since 1989, VIF has partnered with school districts to positively impact the lives of more than a million students and educators by preparing them for success in a globally integrated world. The international teachers receive visas that allow them to teach in the United States for up to three years. To qualify for participation in the VIF program, teachers must have a baccalaureate degree or higher, teacher preparation, relevant course work and English fluency. VIF provides a week-long orientation for all teachers upon their arrival in the U.S. The new international arrivals brought the total number of VIF teachers serving LCPS to 83. “VIF has made it possible to draw talent from around the world,” Loudoun County School Board Chairman Robert F. DuPree (Dulles District) said in welcoming the new teachers. “You continue to be an outstanding part of our educational system. We have a very dynamic school system here in Loudoun. We have a lot of change going on here…and you are now a part of it. You bring an opportunity for our students to benefit from your experiences. We want the best for our students, so we sought you out.” “I started teaching before most of you were born,” said LCPS Superintendent Edgar B. Hatrick III. “I am currently serving in my 17th year as Superintendent and 42nd year as an educator for Loudoun County Public Schools. We began as a small, rural system and we are now becoming a complex, cosmopolitan-suburban system with a richly diverse student body. We look to you for your teaching expertise and your cultural experiences. “We are very proud of the school system we have, because we are proud of our students. Every day with them is precious. We never want to waste a moment spent with them. We welcome you to Loudoun County Public Schools…We look forward to the difference you are going to make in the lives of our children.” David Young, VIF’s chief executive officer, thanked the School Board and administration for their trust in the international faculty exchange program. “Loudoun County is a leader nationally and internationally in international education… “We know how much you have given up to be a part of this program,” Young told the VIF teachers. “We thank you for your commitment and trust to leave your families, your school systems and your skill sets. We applaud your remarkable courage and willingness to find that teaching internationally will broaden and enhance your teaching experience.” LCPS Director of Personnel Services Paul Webb closed the program by saying, “Each of us has a story…each of you has a special story…you will share your stories and your students will share their stories. Together we can create wonderful new stories together.” The following VIF teachers (with their country of origin, subject and school assignment) will be joining Loudoun County Public Schools this year: Marina Amor, Argentina, Spanish, Grades K-12 Anyela Ariza, Colombia, Spanish, Horizon Elementary School Craig Bellwood, South Africa, Elementary Education, Grades K-5 Andrew Boxsell, Australia, Physical Education, Arcola Elementary School Francisco Javier Caro, Spain, Spanish, Grades K-5 Jose Celis, Colombia, Spanish, Farmwell Station Middle School Javier Covo, Spain, Spanish, Grades 9-12 Cristina Dan, Romania, Math, Belmont Ridge Middle School Elizabeth Davila, Colombia, Spanish, Grades K-5
