Life Plan Communities Arcadia celebrates 55 years of operations and is home to some 300 residents in Makiki. 15 Craigside, a state-of-the-art Life Plan Community in Nuuanu, opened in 2011 and is pet friendly, welcoming residents and their furry friends as part of the family. Both communities remain on the cutting edge of technology, embracing solutions that enhance everyday life. Our smart apartments give residents the luxury of using technology to adjust their room temperature, control lighting and more. All incoming residents also receive an iPad, and through a series of classes, learn to use them to keep up-to-date on community happenings. Most notably, 15 Craigside and Arcadia offer guaranteed lifetime care for its residents, providing peace of mind for years to come. Home and Community-Based Services Many people prefer to age in the familiarity and comfort of their own homes. For that reason, the Arcadia Family of Companies developed a robust home and community-based services team to answer the varied needs of our kupuna.
Arcadia At Home The newest senior living option is Arcadia At Home, a membership program where kupuna age in place in their home while having access to programs, services and guaranteed lifetime care at our Life Plan Communities. Members of this program make friends, attend activities and interact with staff who know them by name. While at home, they also receive personal care coordination during emergency and planned medical events, alleviating the stress of navigating the complex healthcare system. An Arcadia At Home Membership is truly the best of both worlds. Arcadia Adult Day Care & Day Health Center at Central Union Church
Arcadia Home Health Services provides housekeeping, meal delivery and home maintenance to its clients, making the challenge of maintaining a home that much easier. In addition, companion and personal care services enable clients to live safely and independently in their home with the assistance they need. Arcadia Adult Day Care & Day Health Center at Central Union Church is open Monday through Friday, and clients enjoy a healthy balance of physical and mental exercises in a setting that encourages socialization. Included in the daily rate are two meals, excursions and a variety of stimulating activities that are ever-changing. Clients also have the option to receive a third meal and a shower before returning home to spend a relaxing evening with their loved ones.
Consuelo Rogers, Arcadia at Home Member and Arcadia Groundskeeper
By offering Hawaii’s most comprehensive array of senior living services, the Arcadia Family of Companies allows families to plan for peace of mind during the journey of growing older. Aging is a privilege, and the Arcadia Family of Companies embraces the responsibility of ensuring Hawaii’s kupuna are well cared for now and in the future. For more information, visit arcadia.org

ALOHA!
I
t seems today that the world is always going to websites. But sometimes casting a worldwide net can make your search for local assistance more difficult to sift through. So, HONOLULU Magazine is proud to introduce our Kūpuna Resource Guide. Here, you can find listings of more than 200 local organizations and businesses that serve kūpuna in more than 30 categories. They include: caregiving, finances, community services, long-term care, housing, legal needs and assistance for Alzheimer’s patients, veterans, those with diabetes and more. We have included each organization’s phone number, address, website and email so you can find more information. You may notice that some agencies overlap as they serve many needs, such as AARP Hawai‘i, while others are more specific. We hope this will prove to be a valuable resource for you and your family, whether you are looking for information and help now or for your future.

RESOURCE CENTERS There are hundreds of organizations in Hawai‘i that offer education, assistance, care or support for kūpuna and their families. These four nonprofit groups cover a wide range of services and are also invaluable for their work connecting those in need of programs with those who can serve them best. If you are not sure what you are looking for, turn to these experts for guidance.
AARP AARP, formerly the American Association of Retired Persons, is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization dedicated to empowering adults 50 years and older and their ‘ohana. With nearly 150,000 members in the Islands, AARP Hawai‘i works tirelessly to meet the needs of kūpuna. From sharing practical resources to holding activities and events, AARP provides opportunities for seniors to choose how they live as they age. With their membership, seniors have access to community referrals, support and practical resources on caregiving, financial security, fighting fraud and much more. Each year, AARP Hawai‘i advocates at the state Legislature for government funds to ensure financial caregiving support and many other initiatives.
Hawai‘i Aging and Disability Resource Center The Hawai‘i Aging and Disability Resource Center is a one-stop organization that helps older adults, individuals with disabilities and family caregivers find long-term support and services. The state- and county-
funded ADRC also has county offices and directories of services to assist people of all incomes and ages for free. ADRC staff can help determine if you are eligible for public benefits and programs. They may also assist you and your family in finding providers and will work with you to develop a plan for your future long-term care.
AUW 211 Aloha United Way is a nonprofit organization that brings together resources, organizations and people within the community to advance health, education and financial stability initiatives. Established in 1919, AUW aims to help families and individuals to thrive. One of its most useful resources is its 2-1-1 telephone help line, which works as a statewide comprehensive community referral service. Callers can speak with local experts who are trained to connect people to more than 1,300 agencies and 4,000 programs for food, shelter, financial assistance, elder care, disability service, SNAP prescreening and much more. The help line is available through phone, text, chat or email, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Catholic Charities Hawai‘i Catholic Charities Hawai‘i has been serving the Islands since 1947 and is part of the largest private network of social service organizations in America. It helps 40,000 people each year with a variety of needs, including emergency financial assistance grants and housing. CCH networks with other agencies to provide material assistance such as clothing, utilities and food, and helps seniors fill out applications for public benefits and find transportation for shopping, errands and other activities.

FEDERAL LAW PROHIBITS ANYONE BUT REGISTERED USERS WITH HEARING LOSS FROM USING INTERNET PROTOCOL (IP) CAPTIONED TELEPHONES WITH THE CAPTIONS TURNED ON. IP Captioned Telephone Service may use a live operator. The operator generates captions of what the other party to the call says. These captions are then sent to your phone. There is a cost for each minute of captions generated, paid from a federally administered fund. No cost is passed on to the CapTel user for using the service.
