SWEET TALK

Its pillows liven up our loveseats. Its custom-made signs hang around our homes all year long. Now, SoHa Living is cookin’ up things for our kitchens.

PHOTO: JEWELRY, COURTESY OF ALINEA

S

oHa Living’s latest debut is a lineup of ono pantry items that, honestly, we don’t know how we ever lived without. Need libations for a girls brunch? Just-addliquor cocktail pouches come in a variety of flavors including piña colada and Hawaiian Hurricane. Throwing a kids party? The lilikoiflavored cotton candy and chocolate-covered

bananas are made here with local fruit. Love breakfast-ing in bed? Whip up pillowy pancake stacks with pineapple, mac nut and buttermilk mixes. “We have a roadmap of food products we’ve been working on for a while,” says SoHa Living co-owner Shyrah Mauer. “Most products are locally made, and when possible, we use all-

natural local fruit flavorings.” In the works are Island-inspired spice rubs, seasonings and sauces, signature blends of coffee and a new collection of jams and jellies in unexpected flavors (li-hing-mango jam anyone?). According to Mauer, “What we select is a reflection of what we love. We can’t wait to share all of them.”

Beaming from a glass case at Riches Kahala is one of the boutique’s new additions, a collection of local label Alinea’s sterling silver and 14K gold jewelry. Simple yet stunning, the line’s abstract silhouettes are “reminiscent of forms in nature, like water, roots and the majestic flow of lava,” says designer Andromeda Hendricks. While nature is the line’s muse, Hendricks’ meticulous design process, lost-wax casting, also contributes to the pieces’ fluid forms. The method requires each piece be carved out of wax, then kiln-fired to create a mold. “The organic textures are achieved through carving and shaping the pieces by hand at both the wax and metal phases,” she says. “I never know what the final piece is going to look like in advance. I follow my intuition and allow the pieces to naturally unfold as I make them.”

tepping into 33 Butterflies is akin to entering an industrial loft in New York City. The store’s concrete floors, exposed brick and distressed furniture create a sophisticated, urban vibe. “I want to provide a shopping experience that transports you to an old warehouse in Chelsea,” explains coowner Jonelle Fujita. Fujita and her

husband, Reid, opened 33 Butterflies in 2012, stocking the shelves with women’s clothing and accessories that feature deep natural hues, contemporary cuts and on-trend details. Within the latest delivery, you’ll find an intricately embroidered Johnny Was romper for weekend brunch and a ruched Young Fabulous & Broke jersey dress for date

night. Be sure to inspect freestanding wardrobes for the perfect finishing touches, such as leather and crystal cuffs or freshwater pearl chandelier earrings. Despite its success, Fujita says there are no plans to expand 33 Butterflies outside of Kahala. “I like the fact that it’s just one store,” Fujita says. “I want it to feel special and exclusive.”
