NEW HOPE SCHOOL A Special School in the Hills District
WELCOME
Welcome to New Hope School. It is a pleasure for me to help you find out more about us. New Hope School commenced in 2015 with a vision to build a centre of teaching, learning and serving excellence that honours Christ and provides Christian education for students with special learning needs for whom a mainstream setting is not suitable.
Choosing a school is an important decision and particularly so when there are special learning needs to be considered. Our purpose is to see your child grow in wisdom, love, courage, integrity and excellence. As you begin to experience the heart of New Hope, we pray that we might have the privilege of sharing the journey with you - to partner with you in raising your child to make the most of their abilities and talents, and to aim for excellence in all aspects of their schooling. New Hope School is situated within the grounds of Pacific Hills Christian School. This relationship allows for some elements of integration for New Hope students, where appropriate, into mainstream settings within Pacific Hills. At the same time we understand the value of providing a safe environment and the value of belonging to a school community where children, families and staff are respected, known and accountable to each other. At New Hope School, we believe we can provide a unique education that will help prepare our students for life and assist them to discover their potential, with the knowledge they have been created to honour God in the way they live their lives. Dr EJ Boyce | Principal
The program at New Hope School provides options for studying the regular curriculum with appropriate differentiation or to undertake a course of study based on Life Skills outcomes. The curriculum is tailored to suit the individual learning needs of each student and builds on the strengths and talents of each student. The teaching program is based on the NSW curriculum with a focus on learning goals specific to each student as well as skills for daily living.
A TAILORED CURRICULUM CREATED FOR EACH CHILD
On entry to the School a student profile is developed through information and diagnostic reports provided. Teachers, parents and specialists work together to develop individualised learning goals and regular reviews are conducted to monitor and develop new goals. Individual Education Plans (IEP) focus on areas specific to the needs of each student and may include communication, academic, social skills and behaviour.
“We took the drive to Dural from Canberra to see what New Hope could offer our son. Within a few short weeks we relocated to Sydney purely for New Hope.” Carolyn Ross, Parent
OPTIONS AND OPPORTUNITIES
New Hope School is a co-educational Christian special school. The school caters for students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Moderate Intellectual Disability.
INTEGRATION
We are uniquely located on the grounds of Pacific Hills Christian School. As a result, there are opportunities for our students to be involved in whole school and sub-school events, including assemblies, incursions, excursions and camps. Where it is beneficial, students may also have an opportunity to attend a limited number of classes at Pacific Hills. This is determined through the Individual Education Plan process. Students at Pacific Hills Christian School enjoy visiting the students at New Hope School in their break times or through regular and organised visits.
SPORT
New Hope students are able to participate in the Pacific Hills annual carnivals. New Hope School is a member of the Christian Schools Sporting Association. Sporting opportunities for students who wish to pursue higher representative levels are therefore available. We have students who compete at major carnivals for swimming, cross country and athletics at Zone, State and National levels. The students’ participation and achievements provide a wonderful opportunity to congratulate and celebrate across the broader community of both schools.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Work Experience is a focus for students in Year 11 and 12. The program helps to prepare students for transition to an appropriate post school option.
