Haleakala , “House of the Sun”, is a dormant volcano and the tallest peak is 10,023 feet. Haleakala - holds a sacred place in Hawaiian history and became part of the Hawaii National Park in 1916, branching into it's own park in 1961. The Hawaiian people sought the isolation of Haleakal for ceremonial purposes, instruction and personal reasons.

There is a wide spectrum of native island ecosystems which is protected and preserved by the national park system. The park includes Kipahulu Valley on the south east and Ohe‘o Gulch. There are two main trails leading into Haleakala - : Sliding Sands Trail and Halemau‘u Trail.
Ocean Vodka Organic Farm and Distillery’s grounds feature a visitor center, organic farm and craft distillery and was established in 2013 however the vodka has been on the market since 2005. Next door is the popular Surfing Goat Dairy on Omaopio Road. Look for the white fencing and driveway lined with large palms. There are almost 150 goats of all sizes and colors in this family-run dairy. It’s part educational tours, artisan cheese manufacturer and part cafe. Sign up for the Casual tour offered everyday on the hour or on Saturday mornings, take the Grand Dairy tour, milk a goat then herd them into pasture.
