PEAK ECO At Peak UK we’re totally committed to looking after our environment.

We’re cleaning the river... and saving the sea. This year we started the Paddle Peak project. Part of Paddle Peak’s vision is to clean and care for the River Derwent, our home, and protect its wildlife with regular river clean ups.

We are so proud to announce that for 2020 all of our new Whitewater and Touring Jackets and Pants are made from fabrics containing recycled yarn. The following products have been created from used plastics: Tourlite Short, Long and Hoody, Adventure Single and Double, Semi Long, Freeride and Deluxe Jackets. Bagz H2O Shorts, Semi and Storm Pants. Custom printed Racer and Semi Long / Short jackets, Racer and Semi Long / Short Topdecks and Semi Long / Short STs.

Paddle Peak has five key objectives. Access: Open up the River Derwent Valley for paddlesports. Inspire: Enable local youngsters to take up paddlesport. Promote: Boost the visitor economy by promoting local businesses.

From now on we’ve removed all single use plastic packaging from our production. Products now come with no polythene bag, just a minimalist recycled hang tag, attached to your garment with compostable hemp cord. We’re even using paper tape on the shipping boxes. One Piece Suits now come packaged in a Surplus Bag. This acts as a great kit bag for your suit, and doubles up as a useful changing mat. The bag is made completely from left over materials.

Our future aims are to make harder wearing, longer lasting products using more recycled materials. We’ve already begun updating our premises to energy efficient lighting and investigating the installation of solar power generation. We’re planning a recycling / up-cycling project for used paddlesports garments. Most importantly, we now have our milk delivered in glass bottles. Watch this space for more...

In March 2019 Peak UK were presented with the trophy and prize for the inaugural Roland Hero Awards from the digital printing solutions brand Roland DG. The award is for our unique, innovative custom printed range of paddlesports equipment. Jerry Davies, Managing Director of Roland DG UK Ltd, and Gillian Montanaro, Head of Marketing at Roland DG EMEA, visited our Darley Dale headquarters in the Peak District to celebrate the win. Peak UK were selected as the overall winner of the Roland Hero Awards in January by judges Gillian Montanaro, best-selling author and awardwinning entrepreneur Beth Kempton, and Christian Duyckaert, president of printing industry organisation FESPA. After whittling down an incredibly strong shortlist, the judging panel decided that Peak UK best encompassed what it means to be a Roland user, representing creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship and inspiration.

Jerry and Gillian presented the official winner’s trophy along with a certificate and details of Pete’s main prize: a trip of a lifetime to Iceland, Florida or Thailand. The Peak UK team also celebrated with a bottle of champagne. Pete commented: “I was really proud of our Racer ST and custom print story – great product, great use of sublimation printing. “It’s a real reward for our team here. Everybody’s been involved in the design process, the selling, the manufacturing, the shipping, so it’s a really great team effort. Everyone should be proud. Thank you to Roland and the judges!” While Pete hasn’t confirmed his choice of destination, a trip to exotic Thailand for four people looks like the favourite.

We’ve been specialising in custom printed paddling gear for almost a decade, leading the way in truly bespoke paddling equipment - not only for Olympic Teams, but also for outdoors centres, paddle clubs, activity providers and individuals. In 2016 we upgraded our print hardware with the help of Xpres and Roland DG. This meant we can now offer full body custom printing.

Pete added: “To be recognised for our work outside of the paddlesports industry is the thing that really sets this award apart from others. The Wrapid Fit entry system is a revolutionary redesign of PFD fitting and use. Our Wrap PFDs have two front panels, each connected to the rear PFD panel with a shoulder strap, side panel, side straps and waist strap. Under normal use, Peak UK products are guaranteed for one year from the date of purchase against faults in manufacture and materials. Your receipt is your guarantee. Make sure you ask for a receipt at the point of sale and keep it safe. Peak UK gear is designed and tested for performance canoeing and kayaking only. Using it for other activities unless clearly stated is at your own risk and terminates the products warranty and Peak UK’s liability. Although Peak UK garments are made from top quality materials, using the best construction techniques available, they are not covered against excessive wear and tear, misuse, and over use. As a guide, a paddler who uses the garment two to three hours per week and looks after it well will get at least a years good use out of it. A professional, using it day in day out will need to replace the garment more often.

Peak UK reserve the right to change product specifications, colours and sizing without prior notice. Sizing may change from garment to garment and batch to batch. Our written size guide is for use as a guide only. We suggest customers try garments before they buy to guarantee fit.

Care:

Store your equipment in a dry, dark, and cool place, away from any bright light, strong fumes, dampness or heat. An ideal storage temperature is 10-20 degrees C. Make sure your equipment is fully dried inside and out before storing away. If you leave any wet garments in your kit bag for a few days they will go mouldy and lose their performance. If your garment begins to stink, wash it with Grangers Performance Wash and hang to drip dry. High areas of wear and tear such as the arm pits or your boat carrying shoulder may need some running repairs. Treat such areas with Aquasure Seamgrip adhesive. From time to time reproof the garment’s outer fabric with Grangers Xtreme Repel. Seamgrip and Grangers products are available from our online shop: www.peakuk.com

Dry Zips & Suits:

Lubricate your dry zip immediately after purchase. Visually inspect your suit and pant zips from time to time for any dirt or grit in the teeth as this will affect the seal. Clean using a soft brush and fresh water, then re-lube it before use with YKK lube. Dry One Piece Suits both inside & out before storage. Store with the zip fully closed.

Latex / Neoprene Seals:

To keep the seals in good shape, make sure you do not pull your garment on or off against them. Stretch each seal open when fitting and removing. If you drag the seals on and off they will fail and the taping may pop off. Latex seals are designed to be cut to fit. If they are too tight, cut them down carefully and evenly with small sharp scissors, taking care not to leave any nicks. Cut off a small amount at a time, remembering that the seals will stretch a little with use.

Peak UK was formed back in 1990 when its founder Pete Astles was an up and coming kayak slalom racer, funding his sport by working in a local kayak store. He fell ill and could not train for a few months, so became bored. As the products in the store were badly designed and sized poorly he decided to try making some garments of his own. With help from a sewing machinist friend they soon made a prototype jacket and PFD. His fellow slalom racers all wanted these jackets and PFDs, that’s how it all began... Pete borrowed some cash from his father, purchased a sewing machine, some fabric and foam, then learned how to make garments, for the first few years making almost all of them himself, buying new machines and learning how to operate them as he went along. Now 29 years on, Peak UK is arguably the world’s leading brand of kayaking wear. At Peak UK we pride ourselves as being world class innovators. All our products are designed and tested by us, in house and reflect our own paddling interests. We use only the finest quality materials sourced all over the globe. The Peak UK Kayaking Company is located in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales, near to the River Derwent at Darley Bridge.
