BROADLAND
Drawing on the classic lines and proven design characteristics of a traditional Prospector canoe, the Broadland is a true all rounder and a real workhorse. We have optimized the chine, camber, and sidewall profile from the original Prospector design to increase both primary and secondary stability – making the Broadland a confidence inspiring canoe to paddle. A carefully considered rocker profile, and a symmetrical hull form ensure both the Broadland 15 and 16 paddle well either tandem or solo.

TAPERED FOAM TECHNOLOGY
A MATERIAL’S STIFFNESS IS DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL TO HOW THICK IT IS. In a three layer canoe the foam core is there to hold the inner and outer skins apart without the added weight of all that plastic being solid, giving you massively boosted stiffness, without a huge increase in weight.
THERE IS A SNAG HOWEVER... High wear and high impact points require different properties. In these areas abrasion resistance, impact resistance, and durability are more important than stiffness and to a degree – weight.
THIS IS WHERE OUR TAPERED FOAM TECHNOLOGY COMES IN. By carefully tuning our oven cycles we have achieved a laminate with a foam layer that tapers to virtually zero thickness at either end of your canoe, whilst being thicker than a standard foam core through the belly of the boat. To balance this we have then made the carefully matched inner and outer skins thicker at either end of the canoe. With the right material in the right places we obviously wring every last drop of excessive weight from the canoe, but with the added benefit of making the canoe more durable too.

The outer skin is made with an incredibly stiff and tough whitewater grade plastic – the best we can find, the foam has been optimized to have a lower density, giving us a thicker core than that used in Duracore, and the material distribution between the layers has been optimised to make the most of the superior materials. The result? Stiffer, lighter, and yet just as durable! The noticeable weight saving over our Duracore laminate puts many models made with Duralite into close competition with more expensive canoes produced with composite or royalex construction methods.

Every canoe with ash gunwales is hand finished with pride at our Norfolk production facility. After carefully fitting the ash profiles, the gunwales are planed and oiled by hand, and then matched with ash end plates, ash handles and carrying yoke, and webbing bound ash seats. Not only does it give a beautiful, natural finish, but is several kilos lighter than the vinyl alternative.

That’s exactly what we did with the Covert! In development nothing was off limits and nothing was pre-set – we simply sat down in our shaping bay with a blank piece of paper and one simple brief – To create the fastest, most manoeuvrable, and most predictable Open Canoe possible. At the core of this philosophy is our stepped rocker profile. The step in the tail ensures a clean release of water from the stern, which not only reduces drag, but also helps to reduce the tendency for the tail to bog down on boily eddy lines or when getting bounced around by large lateral waves. The sidewall profile of the boat is also continually curved. This helps boost secondary stability and is carefully angled to keep the waterline width to a minimum. As the Covert is made just to slide, spin, grind, boof, and surf its way down the river we have searched the globe for the best materials to build it from. Every boat is built in-house by a dedicated team of paddlers, using a custom grade of super tough highdensity polyethylene. specs: length: 282cm / 9.3ft width: 73.5cm / 29.25” depth: 38.1cm / 15” duraTOUGH: 23.5kg / 51.5lbs duraLITE: 21.5kg / 47lbs Rocker: flared bow and stepped stern Outfitting: Factory-installed saddle, deck lines, customization kit supplied. ABOUT US
Every Silverbirch canoe is drawn and faired at full size using traditional wooden batterns. These graceful lines are then scanned at full size and imported into CAD, where we use them to build highly accurate 3D models of the finished canoe. This fusion of techniques allows us to develop designs with the speed, efficiency, and accuracy of CAD modeling whilst still retaining all the benefits of traditional, time honored craftmanship.
Every canoe is made in our own purpose built production facility in Norfolk by skilled craftsman. Our industry leading quality control system digitally records every aspect of a canoe’s production and testing process, ensuring consistent quality and full traceability of materials.
P R O U D L E Y D E S I G N E D AND MADE I N T H E UK All new designs undergo a rigorous testing and set up process before production begins. We optimize plastic distribution to ensure boats are as durable and light as possible, and tune the cook cycle to ensure the polymer is perfectly cured. Every production canoe is then tested at QC for peace of mind.
