Life Sciences
Research and development continues to play an essential role in addressing the world’s greatest health challenges and in improving health outcomes. In recent years, the healthcare industry and life sciences sector, in particular, have experienced unprecedented growth, driven by an infusion of both public and private funding. Greater emphasis and reliance on evidence-based medicine, translational research, and personalized therapeutics have fueled investment in people and facilities to support the discovery, development, and testing of new medical, surgical, and behavioral interventions. Government agencies, private corporations, and academic medical centers alike are facing ever increasing demand for more and better laboratory and manufacturing space. Page understands the importance to our clients of having a robust research and development infrastructure in advancing healthcare delivery.
Our experience is deep and broad in a wide range of project and client types—whether lab ft-ups within commercial space for small start-up companies; complex renovations in operating hospitals and clinical testing facilities; or new standalone academic research lab buildings and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. Irrespective of type, Page approaches each new project with the aim of finding solutions that uniquely respond to the client’s goals and needs.
Page also understands that organizations perform best when comprised of the most qualified people, and that oftentimes facilities are a key factor in elevating an organization’s reputation and in attracting and retaining top talent. We appreciate the need for adaptability and modularity to accommodate change, as well as redundancy and reliability to ensure unfettered operation. We explore opportunities for reusing buildings and employing sustainable features in order to realize the full potential of these high-cost assets.
These considerations drive Page’s approach to planning health education, science, and delivery facilities. We channel this deep knowledge and experience to guide our clients in making decisions about how best to utilize resources to achieve their business goals and objectives for patient care and wellbeing.
Healthcare systems with strong capabilities to innovate will likely have an edge over their competition. Our team of experts can identify opportunities for repositioning and developing capital assets to support discovery, deliver value, and generate revenue.

Translational Medicine
Translational medicine has been a transformative way of creating new possibilities by allowing basic science to transition to real applications at high speed. The recent vaccine developments for Covid-19 are perhaps the most visible representation of what is being undertaken by translational medicine – getting therapies from bench to bedside and into the community at breathtaking speed. Page has been working at NIH and at prominent medical schools to create adjacencies that allow for acceleration of clinical trials, putting basic research facilities and clinical facilities side-by-side along with facilities for pre-clinical development and testing. These facilities require extreme planning to care for patients while also pushing cutting-edge research. Page’s extensive experience in both hospitals and pharmaceutical research and manufacturing makes us a vital partner in creating the physical places for translation to be successful.

Pharmaceutical R&D
Advances in drug research and development, and new manufacturing techniques, provide lifesaving opportunities for millions of people. These innovations are necessary now more than ever, as we face unprecedented global need for vaccine discovery and production. The Page team is experienced with US Food and Drug Administration current Good Laboratory Practice and Good Manufacturing Practice guidelines, having worked for clients like Janssen, Lilly, Lonza, Novartis, and Roche, among others, on a variety of greenfield and interior fit-up pharmaceutical, quality control, product development, and related production and laboratory facilities containing classified and unclassified space. We are likewise experienced with the corresponding international guidelines and standards—ISO 14644 and IEST-RP-CC003—as they apply to these types of environments, including personnel, product, material, and waste management, as well as environmental monitoring, access control, and sanitization/ decontamination requirements. We are also adept at collaborating with clients and GMP consultants in the development of qualification, commissioning, and validation plans, in line with FDA regulations for licensed facilities. Page uses this knowledge and best practices from our other market sectors like Academic, Government, Corporate, and Healthcare to create inspiring, compliant environments that support development of new drug therapies.

Engineering Labs
Engineering labs encompass an incredible array of functions to support a convergence of disciplines across all sciences that fuel our innovation-driven economy that has been transformed by digitalization. From device prototyping and scale-up to reliability testing and failure analysis, the types of spaces required for engineering and physical sciences demand a rigorous understanding of work flows and equipment. Spaces often must be shielded from RF interference or meet challenging ISO cleanroom requirements while in adjacent spaces dust is being created and high levels of noise and vibration are being generated. Page has been working with many government agencies and leading private companies to create robust flexible spaces that can accommodate rapid evolution in tooling and equipment and adapt quickly to new processes. The full spectrum of software to hardware labs are in play in these facilities.
