Meet Tracey MacLeavy, the Awesome Teen for this issue of TeenVybe. She is fourteen years old and attends Campion College. We had a great time interviewing her and we‟re sure you guys will agree with us when we say that she is truly „Awesome‟! Tracey says her whole personality is what makes her awesome, “she‟s just great!” She‟s just naturally hilarious. For fun, she laughs at people and hangs out with her friends. Her favourite TV shows are „Pretty Little Liars‟ and „Teacha‟s Pet‟ she says with a laugh. Her dream vacation spot is Cristiano Ronaldo‟s bedroom and her favourite game to play is Sims. Her favourite food is cheesecake and her ultimate career desire is to be a psychologist. Tracey says her number one fear is “looking extremely ugly” and when she‟s bored she complains to people on Facebook of her boredom. Three things she NEVER leaves her house without are socks, her phone and lipgloss and her favourite ice cream flavour is cookies & cream. Tracey likes a boy that has a good personality, good looks and doesn‟t cheat as she says she “does not rate people who give bun.” She loves music from Vybz Kartel and Tyler The Creator and she hates when people annoy her. She says it would be cool if she were a lion so she could have her own movie called „Lion King‟ and she loves to chill at her best friend, Sabrina‟s house. Tracey describes herself as “funny, based, awesome, pretty, cool, mean, normal and weird.”

Hey peeps, for this issue, I’ve decided to simply share with you some VERY odd health information that actually works. Try some of them!  Use the First Stall! After analyzing 51 public restrooms, experts found that the stall closest to the restroom door consistently had the lowest bacteria levels (and the most toilet paper!). The first stall probably sees less traffic because it's near the door and people want privacy. And when you're finished, stand before you flush. When toilets are flushed, a fine mist of water containing contagious bacteria sprays up. You can catch intestinal bugs and hepatitis from it.

Sweet Honey! Pour a dab of honey on a cut before covering it with a bandage. Believe it or not, honey has powerful antibacterial properties. A recent study found that it was capable of destroying almost all strains of the most common wound-infecting bacteria.

Music <3! To get you body in shape, you go to the gym. What should you do for your brain? Play an instrument or listen to music! Musical training, or any interaction with music - including listening, improves the brain’s ability to handle communication. Children with musical training have better-thanaverage vocabulary and reading ability. Musical adults had more neuroplasticity aiding their brains’ long-term ability to adapt and change. So every time you put on your headphones or earphones to listen to music, be it Kartel or Adele, you’re improving your brain’s fitness.

All of The Lights! Don't you just hate it when you have the sensation to sneeze, and nothing comes out? All you’re left with is an itchy nose, maybe some watery eyes and the disappointment of a failed effort to clear foreign particles from the nasal cavity. The next time you feel the urge to sneeze with nothing coming out, try

exposing yourself to bright light by peering towards the sun or a light bulb. Just make sure you don't stare directly at the light. Oh, and make sure you cover your nose and mouth to prevent the spread of flu-causing moisture droplets.

Oh Na, Na, What’s Your Name? Nope, not talking about Rihanna, but according to a study at University of California, San Diego, people with ‘positive’ initials - ones that spell out things like JOY or WOW - live nearly 4-1/2 years longer than people with neutral initials. Initials that may shorten life: ILL and DED.

Pieces To The Puzzle They are a literal family and last summer they made a decision to venture out into the event planning and execution industry, as everyone loves to have fun, so they said, why not make a business out of it? And so, Puzzle Link Entertainment was born. Established by a group of four close friends, Cristian Benjamin, Akeem Johnson, Malikk Rattray, and Zachry Jones, they staged their first event, Mist: The Aquatic Sensation, in July of last summer and are happy with its success. The members of Puzzle Link hail from Hillel Academy, Kingston College and Wolmer’s Boys respectively. Their inspiration and motivation comes from within and they figured “Everybody loves to party, so why not do something that everybody likes?, we saw that parties can benefit you in that you can meet new people and make a business out of it. It also brings recognition, because if your party is good, people are going to want to come to the next party you have. And it also introduces you to new things.” They love to see when people in their age group are enjoying themselves and the fact that they can work together as friends. Cristian says, Mist “was successful in the period of time that we planned it, it was in the middle of the week. Not as big of a crowd as we wanted but it was successful enough.” And according to Akeem, “as a starter, for our first event, I’m very proud that we got a good turnout, but there are many more to come and hopefully we’ll be successful with those as well.” They’ve learnt that next time around (in December) they should do their own thing and not be influenced by outsiders. Malikk says “Next time, we’re just gonna do it our way.”

Their ultimate goal as promoters in Jamaica is “to reach the highest levels of partying in Jamaica. We want to keep on keeping parties and make sure that everybody has fun and experience how we party. We want to become a great, big name and just let people realize that kids are the future and that we’re going to take it on like a storm! We just wanna be the craziest party around you know? Something that nobody would think about, something that everyone would come to and just have fun!

Kingston College Manning Cup All Stars North Street Giants, Kingston College have kicked off the 2011 ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel Manning Cup season on a high with a four match winning streak. So far, they’ve CONQUERED Donald Quarrie High, Norman Manley High, Penwood High and Ardenne High. Through our eyes, the Purple Dominators seem most poised to return the prized cup to their North Street headquarters this year, so TeenVybe had a chat with their stars, Jhamie Hyde, Tazeo Gilpin and Richard Wilson. TV: How do you guys feel about how the season has been going so far? Tazeo: “Well, so far it‟s good, because we‟ve played three matches and have nine points.” Jhamie: “So far the season has been going well, we expected to start like this and we‟ve done so, so we just have to stay grounded and keep focused on the games that we have at hand.” TV: What would winning the Manning Cup mean to you guys? Richard: “Well, winning this Manning Cup would be a great thing for us because we haven‟t won it in a long while now and I think this year will be our year.” TV: What‟s the chemistry like between you guys? Jhamie: “The chemistry in our team is good. I mean, everyone understands their responsibilities, so everyone tries to carry it out and make each other‟s job easier. We try to cooperate with the coach as much as possible, stay focused, stay positive at all times, so the chemistry at the moment is

pretty good and we hope to maintain right through the season.” TV: What would you say is the team‟s strategy to win the whole Manning Cup? Richard: “Well the strategy to win the Manning Cup is to stay focused, concentrate, listen to our coach and do the necessary preparation that we need to win it this year.” TV: What do you guys do before a match? Jhamie: “Run joke!” *LOLs* Tazeo: “Well, we just always try to keep happy, keep the „vybes‟ going and before every match you know we haffi give God thanks, so we pray before each match.” Jhamie: “We just stay jovial, try to give jokes so that everyone is happy and being happy carries over into our game. So being happy that means that we should play well and I think we‟re always happy before every game.” TV: How do you guys bounce back from a loss? Jhamie: “We haven‟t faced defeat yet, so we wouldn‟t know how we would bounce back, but I mean God forbid if we should face that, we‟d just have to adjust accordingly.”  TV: How do you balance sports, academics and your social life? Tazeo: “Well it‟s mostly time management. After school, you know, I go home and I get to be tired, I take a little nap, I get up and then I study and just leave my social life for on the weekends.” Jhamie: “Balancing my social life with football and academics, it‟s pretty challenging, but I mean it‟s something that you have to do. It‟s time management basically. I mean, you go home, you take a shower, you get your dinner and get a little rest and then take up back the books and leave your social life for the weekends.” Richard: “Well, it‟s basically the same thing. I just beat the books like every night and just leave the social life for the weekends as well.”  TV: School, football and ___________?

Tazeo: “Going to the movies!” Jhamie: “Partying!”  Richard: “Going to dance!” *LOLs*  TV: What do you learn from football that you can apply to your everyday life? Tazeo: “From football, you learn to work as a team and in daily life you have to work along with the people that are around you.” Jhamie: “In football you have to be disciplined and in your daily life you have to be disciplined, so I‟d say discipline from football carries over into my everyday life.” Richard: “Football teaches me time management, which you need in daily life.” TV: Any team you guys feel threatened by? Tazeo: “Well no, not at this moment.” Jhamie: “Everyone is our main threat, so we take everybody just the same and take every team seriously.” TV: What match are you guys looking forward to the most? Jhamie: “Well, everyone is anticipating a North Street Darby (KC vs. St. Georges). I mean, I personally would love for that to happen, but if not hopefully we can be there in the finals with them.” TV: Where do you guys think you perform better, home or away? Tazeo: “Well definitely at home because the of our home crowd and the „vybes‟ are always good at home.”  TV: What‟s your biggest motivation? Jhamie: “Our Old Boy Association and our management team. I mean the time and dedication and the sacrifices they make for us, so we try to make them happy every time we step foot on the field.”

Hair’s The Story! Hey girls, in this issue I’ve got some advice for you on that pesky thing on our heads that can be so hard to keep up with at times, HAIR! These are ten tips that I’m sure you’ll find beneficial 

1) Find a shampoo that lathers less. Sudsy doesn’t necessarily mean clean - sometimes, it means the opposite. Shampoos that lather too much are often overloaded with moisturizing products, which can leave build-up in your hair, making it look and feel dirtier quicker. So opt for a sulfate-free formula. 2) Give your locks a burst of cold. Before you hop out of the shower, turn the cold water on for a second and quickly rinse it through your strands. It helps seal the cuticle, adding a sleek finish to your locks. 3) Play hot-and-cold as you dry. When using a round brush to dry your hair in sections, start from the roots and dry all the way to the ends, letting the brush linger at the tips of your strands. Let your hair cool off like this on its own for five seconds, then repeat on another section. Alternating between heat and cool-down time helps set your style, and your blowout will have more body. 4) Do an at-home glaze between colour appointments. Glazes fill holes and rough spots in your hair cuticles, helping smooth your locks and put moisture back into your hair. This keeps your colour shiny and bright so it lasts longer and look better. Plus, you can snag an at-home kit from your local drugstore. 5) Use rollers for high volume. For sex-kitten lift, blow out your locks until they’re dry. Then, section off the hair on top of your head—between your temples and all the way back to the crown of your hair. Divide that section into three smaller sections vertically (as if you were making a mohawk), and wrap each in a 2-inch velcro hair roller. Let your

hair sit like this for 30 minutes, and then unwrap your strands, lightly comb them out, and spray for hold. 6) Drop the towel. Keeping wet strands wrapped in a towel for a half-hour as you do your make-up will just cause frizz! The roughness of the cotton forces your hair cuticles open, making them more likely to go every-which-way. Instead, squeeze out excess water as soon as you’re out of the shower, then let your hair air-dry for five or ten minutes before blow drying. 7) Apply products 10 minutes before you style. Whether you’re curling, straightening, or whatevering, applying product 10 minutes in advance helps it fully absorb into your strands so you get all of its benefits and more bang for your buck. 8) Wrap - don’t clamp your hair for quick curls. When using a curling iron, you don’t need to fasten your locks to the barrel. Wrap sections around the iron and hold in place for about 10 seconds to score the soft, sexy curls.

same

9) Use spray bottles as your new lazy - day BFF. If you wake up and your locks are totally flat or grungy from the day before, just spray the top layer of your hair until damp, and then use a big barrel round brush (2 inches or more) to blow your locks dry. You’ll score high volume on that top layer, and since it’s freshly blown out, you’ll create the illusion of all-over smooth hair. 10) Use dry shampoo a different way. Instead of waiting until your locks need an dirt-fighting pick-me-up, apply a dab of dry shampoo to your roots immediately after you wash and dry them. Though your hair’s already clean, the barrier will stave off the debris and oil your strands will collect throughout the day before it hits. Bonus: It also gives you killer volume.

Problem: Ok, so I like this guy a lot, and initially he seemed to like me just as much, but then idk what happened, he started to change and behave erratically and just overall weird. I know he has problems, but don't we all, and the sad part is, I kind of feel used and sort of victimized in a sense. I've known him for a very, very long time, but we kinda started to hit it off since summer and we became really close, like everything seemed so good, then as i mentioned before, he changed. I really have no idea what to do, I want to give up and just leave him alone, but another part of me thinks he needs my help. *sigh* I never usually ask for advice about anything, but this I just cannot deal with on my own. Solution: Okay, so lemme get this straight. You guys were close and got together, he changed and you feel used and victimized so you need help cause you don't know if you should leave him or stay? You guys are very, very close so..Have you ever asked him what was up? Have you mentioned to him that he changed? The first thing you've got to do, is to be open with him..No matter what, you need to let him know how you feel because I'm sure he doesn't know that he's changed. If you've already done this, then you need to sit and think about what you want..If you want to stay around and help or if you want to take a break from the drama and move on with your life. It would be good if you told him what you planned to do, just so he won't be around expecting anything spectacular to happen..plus! It would kinda prevent the awkwardness between you two if you ever see each other around

again. Problem: Dear TeenVybe, I'm 17 years old and I have a boyfriend. I don't want any boyfriend though. I'm just too nice to tell him to 'shub'. He is kind of picking up that I am not that interested but he just keep on saying how much I mean to him. I'm like 'bleh'. What should I do? Solution: I think you should be honest with him and tell him what's up though! I'm sure when he figures out that you don't really like him like that and whatever he's gonna feel like a 'gal clown' lol ..Wow, I'm wondering if I used that right :s Anyways! You need to let him know what's up! Don't ever keep a guy hanging like that, it’s not necessary! Guys need closure too. Problem: I recently broke up with my boyfriend and he's really close with this other girl he says is his friend but idk yo..them always together and stuff and I still have feelings for him. What should I do?? Solution: Confront him about how you feel about him..If he doesn't care darling then, you should move on with your life. Don't assume that something is going on between him and his friend. Ask questions. A lot of dumb drama is made this way..Because people keep assuming..I'm sure if anything is going on, he won't lie about it. Problem: I'm a 17 year old girl who has an abusive mother. She abuses me both verbally and physically. Idk wht to do. She doesn't make me go anywhere or do anything. She still

checks my home work and all those other stuff. Solution: Wow! Maybe your mom doesn't realize that you're growing up. She probably doesn't think you're responsible but then again she doesn't even give you an opportunity to prove to her that you are. Does anyone else know this? You need to seriously speak to an adult that you confide in with this information. I hope you don't mature into an angry woman who will then abuse her children. You need to find an activity that you enjoy doing just to take your mind off things! You also need really awesome friends /: sigh! You'll pull through this. Problem: Dear TV, my parents have been separated for a while now and like, my mom has started dating this new guy.. The thing is, I don't know how to cope with this.. What shud I do? Solution: Hello, well..firstly, you've got to try your best to accept that your parents have separate lives now and you've got to be very open minded. Don't limit yourself and don't compare the new person to your dad. That's important! The reason that new person is there is because of the failed relationship so you can't expect the person to be too similar to the previous and don't be judgmental. Take some time to know the person BUT if there's something you don't like about that other person, you should let your mom know. Problem: I'm having a huge prob zn? I think my bff is falling in love wid me :| But I doh feel di same way abt him, idk how to tell him that and maintain the friendship! HELP! Solution: Jah know sis..I think you should tell him how you feel. He might get upset or get emotional about it but

he'll get over it. Tell him that you value the friendship and you don't want to jeopardize that by having a relationship. You should try your best to be honest with him so he doesn't think you're messing with him. Problem: People keep spreading rumours about me and it bothers me. I've lost many friends and nobody really talks to me anymore /: what should I do? Solution: IGNORE PEOPLE! They will ALWAYS talk. Whether you're doing good or bad. I know it’s hard but you can do it! Obviously you did something out of the norm why people are talking or maybe they're just pointless lies..Either way, forget that and all the stress that comes with it. Your so called 'friends' weren't real friends. They should've stuck by your side no matter what and they should've been there for emotional support. As you mature, you'll meet different people and you'll get to understand what a real friendship is like. For now, just keep calm..Forget the world and do you. Small minds gossip k? They have nothing better to do. You're obviously a cool kid. *pops your collar* Problem: How do I get girls to like me? I don't dress 'cool' or anything..I'm pretty simple and I realize that girls go for the so called 'fresh' guys..I don't want to change who I am to please anyone but I just really want to get a girlfriend /: Solution: Wait for the girl who will love you for you. This is gonna be sooo cliche` *covers face* but people should like you for who you are and not what you wear. Fresh people have a lot of fake friends, beleee' dat! But you've got it a little better off..You might just meet some really genuine people, much easier than the other guys! Cheer up! *hugs you*

WELCOME BACK THE GOOD OLE LACE It's officially fall girls! Along with the cooler weather, the season brings some exciting new fashion trends. And one of the hottest looks for this fall is Lace! Lace has been around for centuries, yet in 2010 it made a huge come back and is still trekking on. Lace is a perfect way to add a touch of sophistication and sex appeal. Adding Lace to an outfit will make you on trend and your outfit definitely in fashion. The trend has seen Lace used in all colours, but particularly popular, black or nude inserts to show a tantalising amount of flesh around the shoulders or back. Lace can suit all skin colours and body types. Nude lace is harder to wear, so it’s probably best for darker skins, but black lace is great for all skin and body types. Probably one of the most diverse fashions ever, Lace can be beautiful, flirty, romantic, feminine and chic. It all depends on how you wear it. And I am very elated about its resurgence this fall! Lace is gorgeous. It looks exceptionally good combined with other fabrics or just on its own. But beware of too much of it, because it will look unflattering. Choose just one item in lace to look great. More than one will turn you into a Barbie girl – the effect you hardly wish to get. A different take on the lace trend has been the printed

effect. This style fits perfectly with over the knee flats for the casual chic when enjoying a night with friends or a relaxed party atmosphere. To hit more trends, wear a boyfriend blazer on top. Lace has the unique ability to look both ladylike and scandalous at the same time. You can rock basic black, or go a bit more outrageous with bold colours like cobalt and violet. And if you're not quite sure you can pull all-over lace off, use it to accessorize -- with lacy pumps, lacecovered bag or a lace scarf! Try various types of Lace to find the one that is best for you. You can go for vintage Lace with large prints and look classy or opt for tiny patterns for a more sensual look.

S

he makes them herself and calls them her ‘Creations’. They are hair bows! Danielle loves what she does and making money from it isn’t so bad either! She’s seventeen years old and attends Campion College and TeenVybe thinks she is well on her way down her entrepreneurial path. This is what she had to say.

TV: What inspired you to produce and sell hair bows? Danielle: “I was inspired by watching a TV show called „Gossip Girl‟ in the summer. I admired a character in the show called „Blair‟ because whatever she wasn‟t born with, she worked very hard to get and she always wore these hair bows in her hair and I thought, “If I could be like Blair, I may have to emulate her and wear hair bows just like her, so I started doing it and people started to catch on to it and started to pay money for them, so it was really by accident actually.” TV: Which of your bows is your favourite one? Danielle: “Well, probably the one I‟m wearing because it reminds me of red velvet cupcakes from „Pastry Passions‟. TV: Where do you see yourself in the next ten years as an entrepreneur? Danielle: “I really plan to study Law at UWI, not to make money, but to like help people. But if I can do business without necessarily studying it, I‟d prefer to do that.” TV: Is this just a hobby or something that you‟d want to continue doing professionally, seeing as it‟s caught on so well? Danielle: “Yea, seeing as I can actually do well at it I may want to

take it as far as possible. Like I even sew my own clothes because I‟m actually very, very stingy. Like this summer, I wanted a bathing suit in like 50s style because I‟m very into retro and I didn‟t know where they would sell and I didn‟t know if I could afford it because I don‟t like to pay money for things, so I sewed it myself and everybody thought it was so awesome, so I just decided to make more.” TV: Favourite colour?

Danielle: “Pink! But I‟m very into red, black and white.” TV: What‟s your style? Danielle: “I think my personal style is Audrey Hepburn meets Kelly Osbourne.” TV: Do you like the experience of dealing with customers? Danielle: “Actually, I don‟t consider myself a people person at all. So I‟m glad that I have a store that I can sell them at without actually talking to people.” TV: Any other hobbies? Danielle: I like to sing, but few people know this because I‟m actually very shy, only people at my church know this. *LOLs* I also like to play guitar. TV: Any challenges in starting the business? Danielle: “Well, like I said, it was by accident, so I was really pushed by people to start it. Like people started asking me for it and I just started supplying them until they got kind of big and my cousin from Wolmer‟s started selling it to her friends and… then I decided I wanted to sell them in a store and I started to go around and that was actually the challenging part, because some people are actually very mean and they don‟t want to see you

prosper, but there are actually a few people who are nice to you and the hardest part is finding those people.” TV: Any advice that you would give anyone becoming an entrepreneur or who desires to become an entrepreneur? Danielle: “I would say to first find something you‟re actually good at and find someone who‟s gonna help you with it and keep God first because without him, I mean, in order to do this, I actually did some serious fasting and prayer, honestly. And treat every customer as if they were your only one. I mean, every time I see someone in one of my bows I have to just smile, it gives you a great feeling.” *LOLs* TV: Are you happy with how it‟s been going so far? Danielle: “Yea, I am. I wish it was more stores, but unfortunately that‟s not possible and I wish it was in more stores that are affordable, but unfortunately that‟s not possible either.” TV: Who‟s your inspiration? Danielle: I‟m actually very inspired by the street vendors downtown. I feel like they‟re doing whatever they can to provide for themselves and their families, even if that means going on the side of the road where it‟s nasty and dirty. They know what‟s important to them and they do their best. TV: What‟s your favourite part of being an entrepreneur? Danielle: “Being able to support myself by doing something that‟s actually easy. Just being able to buy the things I want. Like over the summer, I bought my first puppy and I wouldn‟t have been able to do it without the business. His name is „Jasper‟ and he‟s a Pomeranian poodle.”  TV: What‟s your ultimate vision for Danielle Reid Creations? Danielle: “As far as it can possibly go! I‟m not sure where exactly that is, but as far as it can go!” 

Danielle’s Creations can be found at House of Style in Pavillion in Half Way Tree or contact her via her Facebook page for custom-made creations. Simply search for Danielle Reid Creations.

Hello Again TeenVybe Fam, Over the past two years or so we‟ve heard a plethora of friend songs from our local entertainers, from “Lose A Friend‟ and „Study Yuh Friend Dem” by IOctane to „Watch Yuh Friends‟ by Jah Vinci and „True Friend‟ from Demarco. VIDEOS You know as well as I do that friends are important, so in this issue we‟ll probe the Bible to see some of what God has to say about friends…From making new friends, and maintaining old friendships to identifying genuine and fake friends. Making New Friends: Proverbs 18:24A

A man who has friends must himself be friendly, It‟s almost like planting and reaping. If a farmer wants apples he MUST plant the seeds of apples; likewise - to gain new friends you MUST plant the seeds of friendship. Identifying Genuine and Fake Friends: II Timothy 1: 16 & 17

May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains.17 On the contrary, when he was in Rome, he searched hard for me until he found me. Here, this scripture talks about a friend who refreshed another friend in a time of need. Timothy was in prison, in chains as it says; and as much as we might not have been in prison or chains, I‟m sure we all have been in need before; however we can just imagine how much a friend is needed when someone is in chains. Timothy‟s friend Onesiphorus was not ashamed of going to visit Timothy while he was in chains; but on the contrary he sought Timothy out until he found him. In other words he went the extra mile for his friend. So from this we understand that a genuine friend will not be ashamed of you, and will go the extra mile for you, especially during your time of need; conversely a fake friend will be ashamed of you and will bail on you during your time of need. Proverbs 18:24 B

But there is a friend who sticks closer than brother.

Maintaining friendships:

What you feed grows and what you starve dies. If you were to have a pet and choose not to give him food and water; after a while he will certainly die. What am I saying? What does feeding a hypothetical pet has to do with maintaining friendships? Alright, here‟s what I‟m saying…If you don‟t feed your friendships/relationships they will starve to death after a while, like a pet you don‟t feed. So if you want to maintain your friendships/relationships, you MUST feed and nurture them. Here are a few things you may feed your friendships/relationships with: Love - I John 4:11 3:13

Patience - Proverbs 14:29 Forgiveness - Colossians -

In closing, let‟s remember that we are friends of God through His Son Jesus, and He‟s ALWAYS close to us.
