Capital estates project update

This year, the extensive estates capital programme includes just under £25m worth of investment to improve our hospital and the estate.

The capital programme consists of three elements, including:

Emergency backlog and critical infrastructure maintenance schemes Capacity schemes Development projects

You will have seen a number of fantastic projects completed recently, including two as a result of your feedback in the Staff Survey:

The Alex Study – a modern and quiet office environment for our consultants and doctors Multi-faith facility – the creation of a new facility that provides a safe, secure and appropriate space for our people, patients and visitors to express their spirituality

The Adult Assessment Unit (AAU) and Fracture Clinic have recently opened (as our vaccination hub) and the Dolphin Ward upgrade works are now complete. The new and modern facilities help to support the health and wellbeing of our patients and enhance the patient flow across the hospital. The capital estates team are also working on a number of other capital projects including:

Mortuary department upgrade Williams Day Unit rebuild Colposcopy upgrade Endoscopy - third room created Alex Lounge – staff health and wellbeing space New CT scanner build Pre-assessment upgrade ED - frailty assessment build Alex training and education centre Labour Ward upgrade Chamberlen patient toilets and showers installation Kalmar House refresh New laundry facility Green Zone - electric vehicle points/bicycle changing rooms

Michael Meredith, director of strategy and estates, said:
