60 second interview: Sally Smith, domestic

I joined the hospital roughly 20 years ago.

What is your job title?

When I first joined PAHT, I worked within the domestics team on Penn Ward – I now work as a domestic in the catering facilities department.

Can you outline your roles?

My role is to ensure that the kitchen facilities are clean and hygienic for everyday use, ready to prepare the freshly cooked meals for our patients and people.

When did you join PAHT?

I also assist with the ordering of patient meals and keep patient nutrition records updated.

How did you get into it?

PAHT is my local hospital, so this location and role is perfect for me.

What is the most challenging part of your role?

I take huge pride in my work – sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day to complete all tasks.

What is the most satisfying aspect of yourrole?

The most satisfying aspect of my role is knowing that I have made a real difference to our patients’ experience and they are happy when leaving the hospital.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time I enjoy gardening and looking after my grandchildren.

One thing we don’t know about you?

I’m a very family orientated person and I’m also a qualified hairdresser.
