Dear Kristin Ginger & Housing Action Illinois,
[PITCH]
I am a designer, researcher and program manager with three years of marketing and communications experience dedicated to promoting affordable housing and improving the built environment. At Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County, I served an AmeriCorps service term followed by a contract to continue managing, marketing and documenting best practices for the Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NR). I quickly filled a void in the marketing department, using my design experience to create and facilitate the production of outreach materials like real estate signs, flags, stickers, flyers, web pages and t-shirts. The Census Bureau identified our focus neighborhood, Rainier Valley in SE Seattle, as the most diverse zip code in the country, with over 50 languages spoken. As such, I relied on creative approaches, visual design and our strong brand identity to convey our message to community stakeholders, donors, volunteers and government officials. To prevent families from displacement and improve the health and safety of their neighborhoods, I organized volunteers to gather data through community focus groups and over 2,300 door knocks. The Good Glows Here lighting campaign I designed was born of the results; we are moving forward to install over 400 solar-powered light posts in Rainier Valley, and integrating them into our home building and home repair programs. As a representative of Habitat with our community partners, I collaborated on projects such as a Mobile Farm Stand, Play Streets block parties and NeighborWorks community tours, and spoke at larger public events such as town halls and panel discussions. At the University of Pittsburgh, I designed a curriculum to earn the first Bachelor of Philosophy degree in Architectural Studies ever rewarded by the school. My thesis (found here) researched Hong Kong’s 2014 Umbrella Movement in the context of the city’s complicated geographic, economic and political history. Effective defense relied heavily on photography, diagramming and mapping to support my writing. My coursework focused on both social sciences, including urban studies, political theory and a minor in economics, and on art and design. This unique skill set combines creativity, writing, and hard skills in a multitude of software programs to support a team approach. I am a dedicated, curious and assertive self-starter with leadership experience and a strong work ethic. To speak to thriving in a team environment, organization and time management skills, note that I completed the B.Phil in four years, graduating summa cum laude, while competing year-round as a NCAA Div. 1 scholarship athlete. I urge you to visit my website to see some of my work, and look forward to meeting you to discuss using my experience and abilities to continue advocating for the protection and availability of affordable housing with Housing Action Illinois. Sincerely,
Paige Alice Anderson

2017 t-shirt proposal
a local spin on HFHI’s design By customizing HFHI’s new designs, we are emphasizing that Seattlites who support us also benefit the city as a whole. These shirts utilize our vision statement, creating a strong message that will resonate in a city with a well-known housing crisis. Coupled with a distinctive design, these shirts will be a gift that volunteers and donors can wear long beyond their day on site, spurring conversations about Habitat’s work wherever they go.
