Why choose animation as a medium? And how does it break away from the entertainment norm for children in Pakistan? We brainstormed about a number of mediums, ranging from live action to animation, and kept returning to animation because of the sheer amount of imaginative freedom that it offers. It was also completely unchartered territory, which made it an exciting new challenge for my team and myself. How long did it take to put this animation together and how many people were involved? We have been working on 3 Bahadur for over 3 years now. From its inception to its post production, about 50 people have been a part of 3 Bahadur. What has been the most exciting part of bringing this animation together? The most exciting part has definitely been seeing the characters come to life – from rough sketches to the final animations. What activities have you planned around this movie? Apps, games, etc.? There are a number of things that we are looking to do in terms of promoting 3 Bahadur. We have launched a dedicated website for 3 Bahadur, with detailed information on the film, its story and characters and downloadable content such as photos, music and exclusive behind-the-scenes videos. We also worked with PiLabs for a 3 Bahadur smartphone video game for Android and iOS based platforms which has been trending on Google Store. In we talk to sharmeen obaid chinoy, ceo of waadi addition to this, we launched a 3 animations and the creative director of ‘3 bahadur’, have Bahadur weekly pakistan’s first animated feature film. comic strips series in Young World which showcases What inspired you to create a movie aimed towards children this time side adventures of the 3 Bahadur kids around? fighting issues that the common PakiI had wanted to do something for children for a long time. inspire change in their communities. How do you feel 3Bahadur differs from other animations? 3 Bahadur is Pakistan’s first animated feature film. Pakistan has created animated content for many years, but the industry is overwhelmed with product driven content, in which the focus is on selling rather than story telling. We need to move away from this model, and put the narrative first. What were the major challenges you experienced in creating this 3Bahadur? The hardest parts were definitely in the beginning especially since none of us had worked in animation before. It was an uphill climb - putting together a team, learning how animation works from the initial sketch to the final shot, and diving into a medium that is both expensive and time consuming. But we found our pace a few months into the project and what surprised me was the ease with which we found exceptional illustrators, writers, animators and visual effect artists. In which countries is 3Bahadur being released? 3 Bahadur released in cinemas across Pakistan on the 22nd of May. We are in the process of finalizing international distribution in other countries. International release will take place in the fall of this year and it will be subtitled in English. How did you select your cast? What made you choose a cast member to represent the voice of a particular character? My team and I went over a number of options and conducted many auditions to an effort to find the right fit. It was such a thrill to find the voices for different characters in the film! Our heroes are played by child actors Zuhab Khan, Muneeba Yaseen and Hanzala Shahid. Children will be enthralled by our villains played by Alyy Khan and Khaled Ahmed. Deenu, one of our main characters, is played by Behroze Sabzwari whose infamous voice will keep children chuckling till the end. What do you want the audience to take away from 3Bahadur? 3 Bahadur is a story about courage, heroism, loyalty

and friendship that will inspire the next generation to realize that they hold the power to change the future of Pakistan for the better. What are your views on the future of the film industry in Pakistan? In a country of 180 million people, the resurgence of cinema is occurring at a rapid rate. An unprecedented amount of multiplexes are springing up all over the country to cater to growing demands for quality entertainment. . If we can sustain the interest being created now, we can achieve exponential growth over the next 5 years. What are some of the other current projects you are working on? I recently finished working on ‘Song of Lahore’, a documentary film about a jazz ensemble in Lahore that is trying to revive classical music locally. This documentary was screened at Tribeca Film Festival this year. I am also in the final stages of ‘Peacekeepers’, a film about Bangladeshi policewomen who are serving as peace-keeping forces in Haiti with the UN. Any advice to others who inspire to work in the film industry? Never take no for an answer – use whatever resources are available to you and continue to practice and persevere. Whether it is using your cell phone instead of a fancy camera, or submitting a short film to a local festival, do the best with what you have. Spend time learning and perfecting your craft, and don’t let your ego get the best of you. Never say no to a potential opportunity – you never know where it may lead you. 2015

2012 While we love dark hair, we feel it made Juggan look older as did this outfit. With her glowing skin minimum makeup creates maximum impact, and that’s the look she should stick to.

Travelling is great fun! You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our new section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you choose to go and why? Since childhood, London has always been a second home to me! I have many friends and relatives there and know my way around so whenever I need to run away from the hustle and bustle of Lahore, London is my go to place. Where did you stay? I always love staying in Knightsbridge or South Kensington because they are central to all the museums, restaurants, shopping and night life. I either rent an apartment or get a hotel depending upon the season and duration of my trip. What are the best shopping spots there?

travel diaries

I absolutely love the boutiques on Sloane Street, Oxford Street and the designer shops on Bond Street. Though most desis love going to Westfield, I stay away from it as it reminds me too much of Dubai! Suggest some amazing restaurants there? I am a big foodie! The first ritual is to go and eat bun kebab at chai roti from Portman Square. I make my reservations in advance at Chiltern Girehouse, Coya, Zuma, Gymkhana and Novikov. Basuba after a long day of retail therapy at Selfridges is a must! I have recently discovered the Chilli Burger at Byron on High Street Kensington. For desserts I go to Leto or Berners Tavern.

Suggest places for a perfect night out For a night out, London has something for everyone! My favourite hangouts are the Arts Club and Tramp on weekends and on weekdays it’s Novikov, Home House, Eclipse in Chelsea or The Lounge at Nobu Berkeley. Once in a while, The Box can also be great! What can you do over there to relax and unwind? I love going to the spas in london. Mandarian Oriental has a superb one and the spa in Dorchester is very old school and relaxing. You can go and roam around in the parks or go for afternoon tea at the Four Seasons.

Take a stroll in Hyde Park, take a bus tour of London, visit Buckingham Palace, Covent Garden, Trafalgur Square and the London Bridge. Do check out all the great musuems - my favourite is the Victoria and Albert Musuem. If you have kids, do visit the zoo or Kew Gardens. And if you’re feeling super adventurous, pay the amusement parks a visit!

Monday and Tuesday you’re number one, top of the charts. It’s like your face is splashed across billboards throughout the land. Your reputation makes strangers want to know you. And you’re interested in knowing other people -- in particular, faraway people. You want to see the world. Use your connections to work toward your biggest dreams this week. Going somewhere exotic can, paradoxically, have a grounding effect. Saturday or Sunday, someone you know announces that they want to travel with you. This is the best idea that’s come along in a while.

A philosophical approach can certainly make your life seem more amusing and more like a play than real life. But watch out for pretension and righteousness on Monday and Tuesday. In the middle of the day on Wednesday, something happens that alters your perspective -- it may be as small as a confusing comment from a friend, or something bigger. Thursday and Friday are great days, full of more small revelations -- tons of them -- that would be hard to articulate to anyone else. There’s a certain pleasure in that. Your weekend could be described as a series of radical ideas.

You really don’t have to wonder what your days have in store for you on Monday and Tuesday, because outcomes are up to you. Your days will consist of whatever you want them to contain. That said, don’t foist your will upon other people, or they may foist bad feelings back. Wednesday afternoon is a turning point in your week: Suddenly the simplest thing may become unmanageably complex. Thursday and Friday, no one offers you any information about what they’re thinking -- you have to coax it out of them. This weekend, your social gears are oiled and conversation comes effortlessly.

You’re having a hard time allocating resources and deciding on priorities at the start of the week. Monday and Tuesday are halting, taxing days. Do something to get your blood flowing. A brisk walk? Push-ups? Wednesday brings about a turn toward introspection. You decide that maybe you don’t want to go to the movies Wednesday night after all. Or on Thursday or Friday. Or, if you do go to the movies, you feel like going alone. (There is a certain comfort in doing that.) This weekend, when you try to reengage socially, someone else will be in the mood to go their own way. Funny timing.

You’re having a hard time allocating resources and deciding on priorities at the start of the week. Monday and Tuesday are halting, taxing days. Do something to get your blood flowing. A brisk walk? This weekend, when you try to reengage socially, someone else will be in the mood to go their own way. Funny timing.

You feel like a caged animal on Monday and Tuesday -- not caged against your will, but caged by your sense of obligation (most likely to your family). You take your responsibilities more seriously than most people do, which is why you’re destined for great success. But this seriousness can make certain afternoons boring. Thankfully, Wednesday afternoon and all of Thursday and Friday are not boring in the least. There’s some laughing. There’s some romance. (Lots, actually.) There’s even serious, ambitious dreaming about the future. This weekend, nothing stands in your way.

You have a bunch of stuff on the stove right now, and everything’s looking good. There’s a lot going on. Your friends are pitching in to help, your family is excited about the things you’re doing and you’re getting the support you want. When everything’s going so well, it’s strange for the tide to change suddenly, but that’s what happens midday on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday, your sentimental side gets the better of you, and you feel weird for vague reasons. This is, thankfully, an anomaly, a random bump, a nothing. Come Saturday, you’re productive and glowing again. Sunday is a treasure.

There’s too much riding on the risk to justify it to your more conservative friends on Monday and Tuesday. But if you really feel like taking it, and you have it in you to deal with the consequences come what may, well, go ahead. Proceed with care. Wednesday through Friday, you’re focused on managing several factors related to the risk, and on managing relationships. Your boss figures strongly (and is in a good mood) toward the end of the workweek. It is an exhausting week -- ambition is exhausting and produces tiring anxiety. You have a weekend in the domestic realm that’s exhausting, too. Time for a nap!

You make people so insanely happy on Monday and Tuesday that no matter what you’re doing -- be it work-related or school-related or chore-related -- it feels like a party. That’s a sign that you’re doing something right. The party, metaphorically speaking, breaks up sometime around Wednesday. You spend Thursday and Friday around fewer people, but you remain in a euphoric, curious mood. This weekend, craving conversation and contact, you end up meeting a perfect stranger (or several) and becoming fast friends. You’re great at having a good time.

Monday and Tuesday you’re occupied with finding containers for your wild, abstract ideas. How can you pour your energy into a project that makes sense to the outside world? Or that furthers your career? Or that means something? The seeming impossibility of it is staggering, but also makes it worth doing. A surprise success in the middle of the day Wednesday is auspicious. Thursday and Friday are an uninterrupted string of successes. By the time the weekend rolls around, you’re looking for ways to get more done and nap at the same time. Now if you could pull that off....

You have enough room at the table to squeeze a few more people in, absolutely. That’s your attitude on Monday and Tuesday. Not everyone has the gumption you do, and your willingness to take others under your wing will be repaid tenfold. As the week continues, it presents more and more challenges. Wednesday is confusing, Thursday is a total mess and Friday is apocalyptically dramatic. Thankfully, you’re not invested in the drama, so your response is only a very general tiredness. It isn’t until the weekend that you get to have some fun. Lots of it, actually.
