*ABOUT ME
‘MOM MATTERS’ Who is Juggun in ‘3 words’? Wow, I mean I don’t know how to describe myself in 3 words, because I think to describe any person in just a few words is tough. But I guess honest, kind and grateful.. When did you decide that you want to be an actress? And who was you biggest inspiration? I have always wanted to act, and when I was four years old somebody asked me for the first time what I wanted to do when I grew up, I said I want to be an actress. As far as my biggest inspiration is concerned, from within my family; my aunt Rehana Saigol, who doesn’t act professionally but as a passion and internationally I 22

love Meryl Streep and Shabana Azmi. What’s the best career advice that you have received so far? I think the best career advice that I’ve received so far is to focus, work hard and don’t listen to other people’s advice about how you should do things, especially if it’s negative advice. Very early on in my career I realized that I was always on time, while everyone else was told to come at 9 in the morning but they would show up around 12. And these people to try to get me to turn up late like them. I turned to someone very senior from the industry for advice, and they said never listen to anyone who tells you to be unprofessional and to do things
incorrectly just because it makes you think that you’re more glamorous. There is nothing glamorous about being unprofessional, inappropriate or making a mis-commitment. Do you plan to stick to hosting for now, or are there other projects that you are currently working on? Well, I’m hosting, I’ve got my web portal ‘mom matters’, then I’ve got my clothing line ‘Jugguns’, there’s a bunch of stuff that I’m doing and a lot of acting things that I’m in talks with. The past two and a half years were tough because I had a miscarriage, I got pregnant again and that was a bit complicated and I’ve only just recently lost the baby weight so I’m planning to
start going back into acting. What are the 3 qualities that got you where you are today? The three things that have gotten me so far are hard work, focus and being honest. How did you come around to writing ‘Mom Matters’? My own pregnancy experience led me to this book. When I got pregnant with my second son Hassan, the pregnancy was extremely tough. I was really unwell and was put on bed rest. So throughout this difficult period I was constantly looking towards western media to answer my ‘desi’ queries. Everything was very westernized, like I was told to eat avocados or add salmon to my diet, and most of these things aren’t even available in our supermarkets. . So, for me the idea was to create something that would primarily cater to desi or South Asian women. You have done many projects, which one do you think has had a huge impact on you being a mother? I think out of all my projects, ‘mom matters’ is the one that’s had a huge impact on me being a mother. Also everything that I’ve done has affected me as a parent, because all the choices that I’ve make ‘project wise’, I make them keeping in mind that I’m a mother. Like if I sign a huge acting project, I need to know how much time that would take away from home, whether I’ll 2017

be able to give my sons adequate amount of time. So everything that I do is pretty much directly interlinked to being a parent. The reason I never moved to Karachi, is because my son Hamza is in a school in Lahore which is one of the best boys schools and I didn’t want his education to get affected. So I don’t know if many of the projects have affected me as a mother, but my being a mother has surely affected my choices in terms of work. What one piece of advice would you give to all the new mothers out there? I would tell all new mothers out there is that ‘listen to your gut instinct’. A mothers’ instinct is always right, even if you’re thinking or feeling something unreasonable or something that everyone around you is saying doesn’t sound right. Always look into how you feel. If you think that your child is feeling a bit warm or he might have a fever but your husband says that you’re being silly, go with your gut instinct and get it checked up. How do you balance the time between work and your family? It’s honestly an uphill battle every single day. People think once you get the hang of it, it gets very easy. Every day is something new; you wake up in the morning and everything is fine but then all of the sudden your baby is teething and is in pain and very cranky and fussy. You can hear your baby crying while recording, and he’s in the other room with the nanny, so as soon as you’re on a break you run to the room to check if the baby is ok. Or if Hamza has a ‘Parent Teacher Meeting’, and I have a shoot the same day, then 24

I have to multi-task and make sure I do both. It can get a bit crazy, and every day is a new challenge and sort of a new dynamic that you have to work with. But I have to admit family is what pushes you to bring out the best of yourself, so they have to be the first priority. Do you have any secret talents? Well, I don’t know if this is a secret talent but people always tell me that I cook really well. I love cooking, and might open my own restaurant one day, ‘MIGHT’, but ‘fingers are crossed’, who knows, it might actually happen. What’s your biggest guilty pleasure? NIHARIII! I think my name should’ve been Juggun ‘Nihari’ Kazim, because I absolutely LOVE Nihari. No matter what kind of a hard core diet i’m on, if there is nihari around, I will eat it. What is your favorite vacation spot? I wouldn’t call it ‘vacation spot’, I would call it my ‘other home’, Canada. I’ve lived there for a large portion of my life and I went to college there. So when I go back to Toronto I get to meet my friends from college and work. So for my vacation if I can manage one, I would always choose Canada. Lastly, what is your idea of relaxing and unwinding after a tiring day at work? Lying in bed with my husband and my two sons and just chilling! The TV is off, maybe there’s some music in the background. Talking and spending time with my family, to me, is the best way to relax and unwind.

she's a really good friend you can always count on her i love her quirky personality and energy. she has a very good memory, which makes her a very thoughtful friend she comes up with the most the random fun facts.
1. she usually ends up saying the wrong things at wrong time. 2. i hate the way she keeps going on and on with her apologies. 3. she tends to mentally, emotionally exhaust me over trivial problems but in the end would still not take my advice. 4. she becomes obsessive about the most random things possible. 5. she's always stressed out about everything and anything.

i can’t stand her passive aggressive nature. i hate how she needs her space sometimes. she pretends to sleep early while she is usually up and binging on one of her shows. at times she’s too opinionated hence we always end up getting into an argument. i have to force her to dance at weddings or parties.

Travelling is great fun. You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you choose to go and why? Everyone who has ever visited Amsterdam has always come back saying how much they loved it so I have always wanted to see what makes it so special. So I made a trip for four days in Netherlands and got to visit the cities of The Hague & Leiden too.
got to save on accommodation – thanks Nimra! But don’t worry, like most of Europe there are plenty of affordable Airbnb options to choose from if you want to avoid an expensive hotel.
Who did you travel with? One of my friends Nimra is currently studying there, so she was my lovely tour guide. The country is well connected with trains, trams, buses and even boats! Pretty much everything is written in both Dutch & English, so you can’t get lost. Where did you stay? I was able to stay at my friend’s flat which was great as I

What are the best shopping spots there? The Jordaan District in Amsterdam is an upscale area with lots of charming boutiques. Netherlands is famous for its tulips so a trip to the Bloemenmarkt, the floating flower market, would be ideal if you want to buy some. I picked up mini Dutch shoes and windmill replicas as souvenirs for my family, which you can get in any size and from any shop in the country!

Tell us about the sights no one should miss out on? Where to begin! Amsterdam is the city of canals so you could easily spend a week discovering all the quirky little streets. There are lots of galleries and local hotspots to visit including Dam Square, Rijksmuseum and Ann Frank House. The Hague is famous for the International Court of Justice while Leiden has plenty of windmills to climb for a wonderful view of the city.

What can you do over there to relax and unwind? Leiden, which is twinned with the city of Oxford, is great to explore without the rush of tourists. Taking a canal boat ride in Amsterdam is a great and relaxing way to see all the beautiful buildings up close. I would recommend taking a walk during the evenings and visiting a coffee shop, the lights reflecting off the canals create a fantastic vibe! Finally, any tips? Unless you like the winters, I would suggest a visit in warmer weather. November was beyond freezing so I wasn’t able to visit the northern areas like Zaanse Schans for a traditional Dutch experience. But that is top of my list for next time!

Suggest places for a perfect night out Netherlands is home to many famous DJs, so there are always lots of music festivals going on throughout the year.
On the Saturday night we were in Amsterdam, we went to Escape where a brilliant saxophone player performed live with the DJ. Here’s an amusing fun fact: Netherlands has given us Imran Khan – yes the Amplifier one lol!
travel diaries
Suggest some amazing restaurants there? The Pancake Bakery on Prinsengracht is a must if you like your brunches. Their speciality is Poffertjes, or mini pancakes, which we had with clementines and cream. It blew our socks off! Don’t forget that Netherlands is also famous for its cheese & caramel Stroopwafels. You might gain a few extra pounds but it is definitely worth it!

You're probably doing better financially than you have for a long time, but you still might not have reached some of the monetary goals you'd set. This could be on your mind today. If you aren't careful, you could work yourself into a frenzy. It might be more productive to calmly find a way to progress more quickly. You can do it.
Your parents or another couple close to you may be quarreling, and you might be expected to take sides. Don't do it! It's better to stand aside and let them work it out for themselves while reminding them that you care for them both. The best you can do under these circumstances is try to help mediate a compromise, but finding a win/win situation could be hard.
Someone you know well could be saying one thing to you while your intuition tells you another. Your friend is probably troubled by something embarrassing. Don't press for information. It will come out in good time. If you want to help, distract your friend by taking him or her out to dinner or a movie. This should take your minds off the trouble for a while.
A female friend may seem to be upset with you and might not admit it. If you ask what's wrong, she'll probably say, "Nothing." Use your intuition to deduce what's bothering her and then try to make it up to her in some way. You might want to reevaluate your friendship. She may be too uncommunicative. The term "acquaintance" might suit her better than "friend."

Emotions might run high with today's astral energies. Your friends may be snapping at each other and even getting into quarrels. Stay out of it! It's best to concentrate on getting the problem taken care of and take away the reason for the tension rather than try to control it. Hang in there.
Some people with whom you spend a lot of time could get into a debate over spiritual or metaphysical concepts. This could make you and everyone else very uncomfortable. This isn't the time to try to mediate. Both parties involved are too attached to their points of view. It's best just to nip it in the bud and ask them not to discuss it now. Change the subject!
Disagreements and hot tempers could hinder the completion of an important project. There may be a detail to the plan that some people just can't agree on. It's best to attempt to rework it rather than try to bring everyone around to the current point of view. Everyone is too tense to listen to reason. Instead, hear what they have to say and act accordingly. Remain objective!
You might have gotten home later last night than is good for you, and you may feel a little tired and dragged out. Take your vitamins and don't use coffee as a stimulant. Take a brisk walk to clear your head and get the endorphins going. It will lift your spirits. This will enable you to function as sharply as you normally do. Watch out that those late nights don't become a habit

Your emotions may cloud your intuition today. You might not pick up on the thoughts and feelings of others the way you normally do, and you could feel at a disadvantage. This is only a temporary condition. Today you'll just have to rely on logic. This could be helpful in the end. Intuition is at its most useful when it's combined with intellect.
Today you might feel especially passionate and desirous of some time alone with your significant other. However, your partner may be detained by other responsibilities or might not be in the mood. This could be frustrating, but don't get angry. You aren't being rejected, although it might seem that way. Make a date for tomorrow. Better late than never!
Your significant other may be expected at your house tonight but not show up, and may not even communicate with you. This might cause you to be understandably worried. Don't make yourself crazy. All signs are that your partner is OK. Traffic is the likeliest culprit keeping the two of you apart. Your friend may show up a lot later than expected.
Someone you need to contact for information may be temporarily unavailable. You might have to try to find whatever you need somewhere else. This could be difficult. You could go in circles as you're referred to someone who refers you back to the person you can't reach. You might have to put off this problem and work on something else.
