IN THE FIELD WITH...

maryam raja FASHION BLOGGER

Are you a morning or a night person? I’m a weekend person, especially since I have a 9-5 job. What is one item you could never live without? Pizza. What is a destination for the trip of your dreams? Morocco for its stunning architecture & culture. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grow up? And do you still want it? Watching Fashion TV & the glamorous Armani shows as a kid, I really wanted to be a fashion designer or model. Now I feel I can just do it all as a fashion blogger. If you got stuck in the elevator and was forced to listen to only one song, which would it be? Claire de Lune by Claude Debussy - to lull me to sleep till someone comes to the rescue. What is the best advice anyone has ever given you? Always be yourself. What is your go-to look? Currently, it’s jeans and a white top, paired with statement earrings & shoes. Depending on my mood, I’ll add a red lip.

bff ’ s Lovers come and go, but best friends are here to stay! You have had your best most memorable, stomach hurting laughs with them. They have an uncanny way of reading your mind. They keep you focused, pick you up when you are down and are always there which is simply priceless. You may be hating them sometimes but that’s only because you love them. We get two best friends to tell us what they love and hate about each other.

planes, trains & automobiles

Travelling is great fun. You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you choose to go and why? We went to Colombo in Sri Lanka. The beauty of Sri Lanka has always fascinated me and it was on my wish list for a while. Who did you travel with? I dragged my close friend Saim to accompany me on this trip. Where did you stay? We stayed at Movenpick Hotel in Colombo. It’s a relatively new hotel and majority of the rooms have an ocean view. The hotel also has an infinity pool on the rooftop and the people at the front desk are really friendly.

travel diaries

Suggest some amazing restaurants there? Whenever one mentions Colombo, people generally suggest Ministry of Crab but since I am allergic to seafood, I stayed away from it. The Gallery Cafe on Paradise Road takes the cake for me; the beauty of it and the food it offers makes it one of the best places I have ever visited. Bay Leaf is an interesting Italian restaurant in a Colonial House in Colombo. Cafe Francais on Park Street has the most amazing French cuisine and last but not the least Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez has opened up Kaema Sutra at Shangrila Hotel, which serves some of the best coconut roti I have ever had. Tell us about sites no one should

miss out on? Colombo has an amazing National Museum for people interested in history. It also has one of the oldest lighthouses in the world. There are plenty of temples in Colombo and some huge Buddhist ones on water, which are a sight for sore eyes. Laksala is famous for handicrafts such as the Sri Lankan masks, tea, and elephants. Colombo has one of the best crockery stores in the world such as Noritake and Dankotuwa. Mount Lavinia is one of the oldest hotels in Sri Lanka with a view to die for. Independence square is a must see in Colombo and for shopping my favourite were Barefoot, Paradise Road and Raux Brothers.

travel diaries

What can you do over there to relax and unwind? Colombo has a lot of beaches and its famous for its. ayurvedic spa so all I did there was eat, relax by the pool and got massages done at the Spa Ceylon. Any tips? It is one of the most affordable countries I have ever visited. Sri Lankans have a lot of respect for Pakistanis. There is no proper taxi network in the city so make sure to download Uber before you go or rent a car on your arrival. It is super safe and majority of the people are educated. Always keep a water bottle, as it can be a bit humid. There are plenty of teashops and gems stores selling sapphire and other stones, which are their local specialty

Suggest places for a perfect night out? Colombo has a very chilled out vibe, the rooftop of Kingsbury is very famous for its panoramic view of the skyline. Movenpick rooftop is also very happening and popular. Kama Colombo is a good club for a night out.

Colombo also has a lot of Casinos, which are open 24 hours a day.

birthdays The strong-headed Taurus, represented by a bull, is the second of the 12 zodiac signs. Belonging to the element Earth, individuals born under this sign are often people who are highly reliable and practical

Our fab astrologer Zahid Haider, styles up your stars. Find out what’s in store for you this week!

ARIES You begin this week with a lot of enthusiasm because your ambition is aroused and the financial and practical support that you need from others looks strong. ("Yay! I'm laughing all the way to the bank!") Hold on to this solid and positive frame of mind so that you are not at odds with authority figures on Wednesday, which could easily happen. Ultimately, the energy that is building up this week.

TAURUS It's true that this is a testy week for a lot of signs. And admittedly, as the energy builds up before the Full Moon in Scorpio on Sunday, this particular Full Moon is the only Full Moon opposite your sign all year. Nevertheless, you are empowered now because this is also the only time all year that the Sun is in your sign! And this makes you feel good.

GEMINI A dispute you have with someone about shared property, inheritances, taxes or debt will go in your favour at the beginning of the week, especially Monday. You are charmed then! Perhaps this is why you might be at odds with a friend on Wednesday. As the week progresses toward the Full Moon on Sunday, you might feel stress to your health, or stress building up in your job. Just cope as best you can.

Muhammad Ali Khawar Riaz

Alizah Raza

CANCER Plans with partners and close friends are enthusiastic and upbeat at the beginning of the week! You're really pumped to do something and you will enjoy the company of others. For some reason, by Wednesday, you disagree with a parent or a boss. Don't make a big deal about this. Let it go. Instead, gather your strength to face the energy that builds toward Sunday's Full Moon in Scorpio.

stars LEO You have lots of gung ho energy for your work at the beginning of the week! Relations with friends, especially artistic, creative types are smooth and supportive as well. Avoid controversial subjects like politics and religion on Thursday because this will cramp your style. The thing to keep your eye on is the build up of tension toward the end of the week for the Full Moon on Sunday, which will encourage stress on the home front.

VIRGO You begin this week with mucho enthusiasm about sports, social occasions, activities with children, romantic relationships or something to do with the arts. You have plans for fun and you intend to have a good time! Disputes about shared property might arise on Wednesday. Later in the week relations with lovers or kids are intense. Avoid ego battles.

LIBRA You have lots of energy to make positive changes at home or within your family at the beginning of the week. This will please you because you like things at home to be pleasing, attractive and harmonious. Be patient with partners and close friends on Wednesday. Avoid family arguments on Thursday. Why even go there? Peace and harmony at home are more important.

SCORPIO Like everyone else, you are upbeat and enthusiastic at the beginning of the week! Guaranteed. Admittedly, by Wednesday, you might be rankled by someone at work. (Don’t take it personally.) But you might because by Thursday, you are determined to win an argument. Be careful because as the week moves on, the energy will build to the only Full Moon in your sign all year.

SAGITTARIUS You’re throwing your money around at the beginning of the week spending big! Alternatively, you might be busting your buns to earn money because you are putting a lot of energy out, financially speaking. Ka-ching! This makes sense because your focus is on work and productivity this week. Be patient with romantic partners and financial issues are serious this week.

CAPRICON You’re full of energy at the beginning of the week! You’re enthusiastic and excited about life. Vacations, romance, the arts and fun times (including sports) hold a lot of appeal for you right now. Things are smooth at work as well. However, be patient with an authority figure at home.

AQUARIUS Go gently this week. The entire week builds up to the Full Moon in Scorpio on Sunday and this is a tough Full Moon for Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. One of the toughest in the year. Your enthusiasm at the beginning the week might lead to disputes with someone by the middle of the week.

PISCES You begin this week with eager enthusiasm, especially dealing with friends and groups. Some money concerns might arise on Wednesday. No biggie. Avoid power struggles with friends on Thursday. As the end of the week approaches, be extra careful because the Full Moon on Sunday will encourage an accident-prone situation for your sign.
